Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
February 6th-10th
What's Going On This Week
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week Ms. Thompson will be teaching Lesson 4 on Shadows Monday-Wednesday. On Thursday, we will start Lesson 5 on the Moon. Students will be given an extra credit option of completing a moon phases calendar for the month of February. They can go online or outside to record each night's moon phase on their calendar. The extra credit option is due on March 3rd and will count as extra credit on their Astronomy unit test.
- Ms. Shipp's Social Studies: We will complete our discussion the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution and have quiz on Wednesday, February 8th on the vocabulary and notes we have taken in class. Wednesday after the quiz we will discuss the Bill of Rights, the First Amendment and the Government.
- Mrs. Thurston and Mrs. Leonard's ELA/Math: This week we will be finishing up customary length and beginning capacity. There will be a quiz on length on Wednesday. In ELA, we will will continue working on main idea and begin answering text-dependent analysis questions.
- Ms. Harris' GT ELA/Math: This week Ms. Thompson will continue working with students on converting different units of customary measurement. They will have a quick conversion quiz on Tuesday and a customary measurement quiz on Thursday. In ELA, students will practice responding to text-dependent analysis questions using a strategy called, RACES. Students will also start a short novel that will be due on Tuesday the 21st.
Valentine's Day Exchange
Students are welcome to bring in Valentines on February 14th to share with the class. If they decide to bring Valentines, there must be enough for all 22 students. We will be making "mailboxes" in class that morning, but if students have their own mailboxes at home, they are welcome to bring them instead.
NO SCHOOL February 17th and 20th
February 17th is a Teacher Workday and February 20th is when we observe President's Day.
Peace, Love, and Pastries is Friday 7-8am
Join us on Friday as we celebrate FMES being a No Place for Hate school. Parents will participate in a brief activity with their children that emphasizes the importance of acceptance and love, while enjoying pastries in the cafeteria. Students can only attend if accompanied by a parent/adult.
Other Information :
- FMES Yearbooks are on Sale! Order yours by returning the forms/money by February 24th. Yearbooks cost $15-20 depending on soft cover or hard cover. Forms will go home in Wednesday folders this week.
- 3rd Quarter Ends on February 22nd. I can't believe how fast time is flying! Please be checking Parent Portal each week to keep up with your child's grades. Report Cards will be going home the week of February 27th.
- Thank you to everyone who turned in their money and forms for our March 1st field trip to see "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." Ms. Goethe will be our chaperone for this field trip. If students ordered a school lunch, it will be provided. All other students will need to bring a bag lunch from home.
