LC Parent Newsletter

The FACE of the Blazers

Welcome to Lewis and Clark

Dear Blazer Family,

Each January, we tend to look back on the previous year and adjust our goals for the coming year. What a year 2020 was! As we look forward to the new year, we want to THANK each and every one of you as you have stood by us through unprecedented times. There was no playbook on how to close school and shift into remote learning, but we continue to strive to do what's best for students based on the information we have.

During the past months, we have continued to ask what we could do better by reaching out to our students and parents. There are some things that are under our control and others that are not. As a result of those conversations, we are making changes to our third quarter class schedule. The new schedule is included in this newsletter. A personalized schedule will be emailed to both you (if we have your email address) and your student on January 22nd by 3:30pm. You will notice that it has the Google Meet codes listed on it. The schedule in this newsletter will be posted on our district webpage on Sunday, January 24th. Additionally, a copy of the schedule will be mailed home next week.

It is effective Monday, January 25, the first day of third quarter.

The changes include:

  • A consistent schedule of 1/3/5 - not rotating.

  • One more day of teaching. We will now have core classes on Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday.

  • The homeroom/advisory class will move from Mondays to Wednesday.

  • Longer teacher-student class time. Classes will now be an 55 minutes long with the exception of Monday's being 35 minute classes.

  • We are transitioning back to Periods 1, 3, and 5. All remote research says three periods are the maximum for a student.

As the year progresses, we know you will have questions. We will continue to provide updates as we move forward. One of the ways we have been doing this is our monthly Check and Connect with LC Admin Nights. We hold these Google Meets at 6pm on either Tuesday night or Thursday nights. Information is sent to your student's emails the day of the meet. These meetings are an opportunity for students and their families to log on and ask questions, or just get to know our LC community!

Please keep in close communication with our staff. We thank you for your patience, understanding, and practicing grace. Please take care, keep your social distancing, mask up, and be safe.

We care about our Lewis and Clark Family!

Staff Spotlight

Our LC PBIS Team has been working behind the scenes to figure out how to get our Trading Post up and running in a virtual world. They have spend hours learning the new system, photographing and inventorying the items in our store.

Through the use of the PBIS rewards system, students can earn Blazer Prides for attending class, turning in assignments and being On TRACK. These Blazer Prides can then be redeemed for items from the store.

The PBIS team includes Mrs. Schorzman, Mr. Whitehurst, Mr. Daily, Mrs. Sisson, Mrs. Feriante, Mrs. Batali, Mr. Koenig and Mrs. Luna.

A HUGE shout out to these individuals as they work to make Lewis and Clark a place where Tolerance, Respect, Accountability, Courage and Kindness are the norm!
