Signs and symptoms of the Pneumonic plague include:
- coughing
- Difficulty breathing
- fever
- frothing
- bloody sputum
- pain in the chest
Signs and symptoms of Septemic plague include
- abdominal pain
- bleeding
- diarrhea
- nausea
- vomiting
Causes and transmission
The Bubonic Plague is transmitted from a flea bite
The Pneumonic Plague is the only form that can be transmitted person to person
The Septicemic Plague can be transmitted from handling infected animals
diagnosed
Plague is diagnosed by:
- physical exam
- blood tests
- chest x-rays
Treatment and prevention
Treatment for Plague is
- Quarantine for two to four days
- antibiotics
- respratory therapy
- if the person is not treated within 24 hours death will occur
Prevention
- People should avoid wild animals
- travle
- receive vaccinations
- sanitary conditions
Data/statistics
In Egypt 50- 60% of the people died.
Ten to thirty people are infected annually in the southern part of the United states according to WHO.gov ( World Health Organization).
Fifty percent of the cases include people between the ages of 12-45 occurs in western U.S from late spring to fall.
