Social and Emotional Learning
Thank you, Blanton PTA, for arranging an informative PTA meeting about Social Emotional Learning (SEL). There are many benefits for Social Emotional Learning in children including healthy relationships and problem solving with others.
We appreciate our guest speakers, Rebekah De Peo-Christner and Erin Turner, for their expertise discussing the emotional health of our children. Parents and educators speak often of the upward trend of stress in children. Practical suggestions for reducing anxiety were discussed by our panel, which included Jana Kay McHam. Thank you to all these speakers for sharing their knowledge and understanding with us.
We would like to share the benefits of SEL, stressors often seen in children, and practical ways to help. If you have any questions about the Social Emotional Learning program, please contact Mrs. Gow.

Community Night of STEAM
We had such an amazing time at our Community Night of STEAM on Tuesday! There were stations led by 11 DISD schools, TWU, and the Explorium Denton Museum. Blanton had 65 students leading activities and they did an INCREDIBLE job! They have been working on their activity for weeks and got to shine on this night with our Denton community. We were BLOWN AWAY!!! If you would like to see pictures of some our students in action, take a look at the photos here: bit.ly/STEAMnightPHOTOS.
Mrs. Krutka has spent months planning this event, inviting others to participate, securing a venue and funding. Her vision made this night a success! We are appreciative of her visionary thinking and ensuring it all came together as planned.
This night would not have been possible without the financial support of our Blanton PTA. Thank you so much for helping us make this happen for our students and the Denton ISD community! We want to thank our Blanton students that participated as leaders for this event. They are:

Blanton Career Day is coming May 15th!
We are excited to host a fantastic Career Day again this year at Blanton. Because so many of our parents and community members have been willing to volunteer their time each year, we continue to foster some meaningful community, business and family relationships as well as create fun and educational memories for our students. This day has become one of our favorites!
This year our Career Day will be held on Friday May 15th and we are hoping to add even more presenters to provide ample opportunities for student learning as they develop their career interests.
As we begin to create our schedules for this day, we would like to collect some information from those of you who are interested in participating.
If you are interested and are available on this day, please click here to provide us more information as soon as possible and no later than March 4th.
We are excited about getting our community involved with our school through our Career Day events.
Thank you so much for your support!

EXPO Referrals for Spring
Denton ISD's program for Gifted and Talented students is called EXPO. Gifted and talented students are those who excel consistently or who show the potential to excel in general intellectual ability, specific subject matter aptitude, and creative and productive thinking. These students require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. Students are identified through the use of multiple criteria specified by our district.

5th Grade Research Panel Discussions
They did a fantastic job!! We are so proud of how much they have grown in understanding the value of researching all sides of an issue, and forming opinions based on facts learned. What side of this issue is your 5th grader on?
We can't wait to find out what issue they next choose to learn about.
Thank You, Watch DOGS!
Keep Denton Beautiful Opportunity
DB's 32nd Annual Great American Cleanup is Saturday, March 21. Please make plans to join us for Denton's largest and longest-running citywide litter cleanup!
Cleanups will begin at 9 a.m. at locations around Denton (Mrs. Gray will let you know where to meet), followed by a volunteer appreciation party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Denton Civic Center/Quakertown Park (321 E. McKinney St.).
The volunteer party will feature a free lunch. In addition to lunch, enjoy educational activities, music, kids' bounce houses, and more!
Last year, we had more than 2,400 volunteers register, and cleaned more than 3.5 TONS of trash and recycling from our city's streets, waterways, and public spaces! Help us clean up litter that has accumulated in our community during the winter months. Let's keep Denton clean and free of litter!
*ALL registered volunteers MUST have a completed volunteer release form in order to receive supplies and a t-shirt (first come, first served). Please note that EACH volunteer must complete the release.
Please fill out a Waiver and Return the Release form to Mrs. Gray by March 2nd.

Save the Date for FUN RUN!!
Fun Run is the primary fundraiser for Blanton PTA. We don't sell wrapping paper, candy, or cookies... we just ask that you make a simple donation and ask a few friends and family, too! We will have a new online pledge system this year which will allow to you very easily send the donation link to friends and family as well as track your student's donation progress.
We have a large goal of $25,000 in student donations this year. These funds allow the PTA to continue to provide special programming for students, grants for teachers and the school, as well as the fun family events we are able to provide. We want to continue to do amazing things for our staff and students and all it takes is a donation. If just each Blanton student could get $50 in donations we would meet our goal.
Be on the lookout during February for details on the pledge system and individual student pages. We'll also be unveiling all the super cool prizes students can win!
We are currently looking for corporate/business sponsors for Fun Run. If you, or someone you know, owns a business or works for a business that would like to be a sponsor, please visit the Fun Run link on blantonpta.org for more information on sponsor levels and benefits.
