Greetings DWS Families!

Thank you to those families who were able to join us for the Pumpkin Run last Sunday and Curriculum Night this past Wednesday. If you were unable to join us for Curriculum Night, please reach out to your child(ren)'s teacher and they can share their presentation or any additional information they shared that may be helpful.

In Partnership,

Third Grade Celebrates Writing

The third-grade classes have just finished their first writing unit! The unit focused on crafting true stories. Throughout the unit, students practiced writing personal narratives, becoming a storyteller, and revising and editing their work. At the end of the unit, they celebrated their hard work by sharing their writing with their peers. Great work third graders!

Fire Safety Talk

This week, Marshfield Firefighter Tim Farmer will be joining us to talk about fire safety! He will cover topics like calling 911, home escape safety plans, and general fire safety. We look forward to welcoming him to DWS!

DWS Staff of the Week

In partnership with our PTO, each week we will be introducing you to two staff members in order to familiarize our families with all of our amazing staff members at DWS!

Introducing...Lisa Doria

What is your role at DWS? Kindergarten Teacher

Do you have a fun fact or a favorite thing you would like to share about yourself? As a kid, I used to love to draw all the time. At one point I thought about becoming an art teacher! When I was in high school, I won a Silver Key in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards for a still-life drawing I had spent many weeks working on.

Introducing... Adrienne Robatzek

What is your role at DWS? Fourth Grade Teacher

Do you have a fun fact or a favorite thing you would like to share about yourself? This summer I tried paddle board yoga and I loved it.

Information From Previous Newsletters

News from the Nurse

We have had a great start to the school year!

Just a reminder -

Please remember to send your students to school with a reusable water bottle and filling snack daily!

  • All students have a snack break during the day. Please pack a healthy snack EVERY DAY! Great snacks include easy to eat fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, carrots and cucumbers as well as whole grain snacks including granola bars, crackers. Cheese sticks and yogurts are another great option. These ideas help keep hungry bellies at bay and students ready to learn!

  • Have your child bring a water bottle (or two) from home EVERY DAY. Students are able to use the bottle filling stations throughout the day to refill bottles as needed.

General Information

  • Mandated Health Screening Information:

    • The following state-mandated screenings of students will be completed this year by the school nurse.

      • Grades PK thru 5: Vision Screening (October - December)

      • Grade PK thru 3: Hearing Screening (October - December)

      • Postural screening for grade 5 in October - a letter will be sent home with more information.

      • Grades 1, 4: Heights and weights with BMI calculations per DPH regulations (October -December)

    • A parent/guardian may opt out of these mandated screenings only through written notification to the school nurse by October 8th.

    • These are only screenings and NOT a diagnostic service. Failures or concerns regarding the results will warrant further assessment by the child's physician. Specific recommendations will be sent home in writing/phone call for vision, hearing and postural screening.

    • Don’t hesitate to reach out at anytime - 781-834-5045, ext 42500 or via email - kAcampbell@mpsd.org

  • All GRADE 4 students must send in a physical exam dated within the past year. Thank you to those who have already sent in their forms.

  • Please log in to your child’s Aspen account and update the medication consent portion, this is something that needs to be done yearly. *This cannot be done on your handheld device/cell phone*

  • All medical documentation can be faxed to 781-834-5072 to the attention of the School Nurse.

  • Do not hesitate to call with any school health-related questions or concerns at 781-834-5045. I can also be reached by email at: kAcampbeLL@mpsd.org.

DWS Security Updates

A double door entry system with a security window was added to the DWS.

As a security measure, we will not be letting visitors into the building unless you are volunteering. Visitors who have a scheduled meeting will wait in the vestibule and be escorted by the host to the meeting.

All visitors must present a valid ID - no exceptions! We understand that we know many parents/guardians, but we will be requiring ALL visitors to present their ID when they volunteer and/or pick up a student - EVERY TIME. This will be frustrating at first, but we are working hard to maintain the safety of our students.

Arrival & Dismissal Protocols

Please review the most up-to-date arrival and dismissal protocol. We have made some changes to the existing policy in order to keep students, drivers, and staff safe.

The new policy can be found here.

School Supplies

We will be providing all the materials your student needs to have a successful year! We will only be asking families of students in grades 1-5 to purchase headphones for the upcoming school year.
