Redwood Empire Food Bank Community Night
It is Hispanic Heritage Month! Binkley students and staff will honor this month the rich history and cultures of our Hispanic community members, friends, and neighbors.

To learn about Latinx inventors click here
During the next month, students will learn more about Latinx inventors, artists, politicians, athletes, and activists that have changed our world for the better. Our librarian is featuring a LatinX book collection - (click here to check it out) in Binkley’s library, and you will see the celebration through decoration of our campus; both inside and out.
Did you know that children can fall behind academically if they miss 10% of school days? Being in school supports students’ social, emotional and physical well-being, and provides students with opportunities to learn, achieve and to reach for their dreams. We are celebrating classes during Attendance Awareness Month and beyond -- Mrs. Hildebrandt's class was the first to have a week of zero absences and zero tardies -- YAY!! 10 minutes of extra recess for them this last Friday.
We are proud to have Ms. Renzi, our 6th grade teacher, leading two important initiatives: Safe Routes to School and AAA Safety Patrol.
Our first Walk & Roll to school day will be October 4th, International Walk and Roll to School Day. We encourage families to walk or roll to school. If you are too far away to do that, you can join our Walking School Bus that meets at Tanglewood Park. Swag for all bobcats who participate.
AAA Safety Patrol is in full force. They are our 6th graders who have applied for the position, are trained, and supported throughout their time on Patrol. With their brightly colored vests on, it is a continuous reminder to SLOW DOWN. Our Safety Patrol monitor the crosswalk in the turn around (please use the crosswalk), the staff parking lot (no parking unless handicap placecard or staff), and St. Mary's. They are doing an excellent job, and we are very appreciative for all the work Ms. Renzi has put in to support them to be successful.
BE Safe. BE Responsible. BE Respectful.
BE YOUR BINKLEY BEST!
Warmly,

EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
And we are off...
Garden, dance, and girls basketball are underway. Our counselor, Mr. Gustavo is busy after school with his Golden Goose Academy for our older Extended Care students and co-coaching basketball. The district pays for our sports team coaching, everything else we rely on volunteers. So a huge thank youto Seedling Garden Group and Ms. Maru for sponsoring garden and dance.
Volunteer with US!
Students have expressed interest in wanting:
-before school AM yoga classes
-before or after school soccer team
-before or after school art classes
OR ANY OTHER IDEAS. Students want opportunities before/after school.
Contact Principal Harvell (or stop by the office) if you have an interest to volunteer.
RVUSD Tech Tips
What Are Some Basic Gaming and Social Media Rules for Elementary Schoolers?
Young kids may not be on social media yet, but at this age, they start to interact with others in online worlds. Such video games, apps, and websites (like Animal Crossing or Minecraft) are closed environments where kids can explore, meet friends, and let their imaginations run free.
One challenge for parents and caregivers is helping kids balance time spent playing in these online worlds -- which can draw them in for long periods -- and time spent offline. And, even though online worlds have rules about behavior, some kids find ways around them. It's important to talk with children when you first introduce these games about how to avoid and respond to harmful behavior.
Kids younger than 6 probably shouldn't play in virtual worlds.
Set up accounts together.
Make sure your children never share their passwords.’
If you wouldn't let your children have unsupervised play dates, don't let them go online by themselves.
Keep the devices in a central place.
Review the apps and sites yourself.
Set time limits.
Talk about how to behave online.
Show kids how to report misbehavior.
Talk about money and what it means to your family.
