Improve Reading Skills with Cookbooks!
Have your kids help with meal prep and practice their reading skills at the same time! Reading cookbooks is a great way to help your child improve his or her reading skills. Students learn to follow step by step directions, while being exposed to new vocabulary, and get a tasty reward at the end! Take a look at this article from Scholastic to find out more!
Coming Soon...Holiday Bingo!
Last year the elementary division of the Palmyra Area School District planned a district wide "Holiday Literacy Bingo Challenge." Students brought home a bingo card full of reading and writing activities to do over the long holiday break. This was a huge success so we will be doing another holiday bingo challenge...this year including fun reading, writing, and math activities your child can do over the holiday break. Look for a bingo card to come home before the holiday break!

Summer Enrichment Program Update
Palmyra Area School District offered Kindergarten – 5thgrade students the opportunity to participate in several different enrichment programs this summer. Research shows that students who read and write throughout the summer maintain their levels of reading that they worked so hard to achieve.
This summer 434 elementary students participated! Students read and practiced skills through participating in book exchanges, attending the CUB program, participating in the Palmyra Public Library summer reading program, keeping a reading log, and writing journal entries. Students also worked on programs like Study Island, Reading Eggs, Ed City Math, and Type 2 Learn. Students received entries into a drawing for incentives, based on how much they completed or how many sessions attended.
Special thanks to the many local businesses that donated prizes for the raffle: AACA Museum, Adventure Sports, Challenge Family Fun Center, Dollar General, Harrisburg Senators, Indian Echo Caverns, Klick Lewis Arena, Lazer Factory, Laser Dome, McDonalds of Palmyra, Mt. Gretna Roller Rink, Palmyra Bowling, Philadelphia Phillies, Pride of the Susquehanna, Palmyra Texas Roadhouse, and Hersheypark.
