Back to School
August 14th- First Day of School
- Morning Drop Off begins at 7:25 to the elementary gym.
- Teachers will pick up between 7:45-7:50.
- Tardy bell rings at 7:55 a.m.
(Students must be in classroom by 7:55 a.m. bell.)
CHANGES TO BREAKFAST FOR 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR!
- Breakfast in the classroom will be for PreK and Kinder ONLY!
- All other students will need to eat breakfast between 7:25-7:50. Elementary students will be escorted to and from the cafeteria as time allows. Please make sure your child arrives by 7:45 if they wish to eat breakfast (Grades 1st-5th).
- Elementary classes will begin at 7:55 a.m. and school will end at 3:30 p.m.
- Middle School and High School hours are also 7:55 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
KISD IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
The drive behind the administration building is now a one way street. Vehicles can exit campus through the administration building lot or drive behind the softball fields.
During morning drop off, high school and middle school students must drop off in the high school student lot. All parents and visitors will check in at the high school office for middle school and high school.
Buses will continue to drop off at the middle school. Please do not drop off students in the drive behind the administration building. All elementary students need to be dropped off in front of the elementary building.
Parking for events will only be available in the high school, middle school, elementary parking lots.
We appreciate your cooperation during this exciting time at Kerens ISD. We will keep you updated with the construction progress and any changes that are necessary to drop off as it progresses.

Requirements and Documents Needed for Registration for Eligible Students:

1. What is the criteria for enrolling in KISD Pre-K?
Students must be four years old by Sept. 1, 2019 and meet one of the following:
- is unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
- is educationally disadvantaged (which means a student is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program... guidelines can be found at https://www.fns.usda.gov/school-meals/income-eligibility-guidelines: or
- is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or
- is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
- is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
- is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care)following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.
2. How old must a child be to enroll in Kindergarten?
Kindergarten students must be five years old by Sept. 1 of that year to enroll.
3. If I do not live in Kerens, can my child attend preK?
Maybe. You must fill out a transfer request. Once all qualified students enroll, in district non eligible students and transfer students will be reviewed to register. Tuition fee is $500 per month.
4. If my child attended pre-K in Kerens this year, do I need to pre-register? Yes, you need to make sure we have all documents, fill out pre-registration form, and be prepared to come back at regular registration time.

If students meet the above criteria, they qualify to attend at no cost. If a student lives in Kerens attendance zone and does not meet the above qualifications, there is a newly implemented $250 per month tuition fee. The tuition for out of district transfer students is $500 per month.
For PreK and Kindergarten:
Please bring the following with you to register:
- Student Birth Certificate-copy of original from the county NOT hospital (footprints)
- Student Social Security Card
- Student Immunization Records
- Proof of Residency (electric bill, water bill, etc.)
- Withdrawal form from previous school (if moving from another district)
