YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING
As part of a School-Based Mental Health Grant we received as a district, we are excited to offer another opportunity to train parents and community members in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). During the YMHFA course, participants develop an understanding of the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, the importance of early intervention, and how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Participants will engage in a 2-hour self-paced course followed by a 4.5 hour in-person session with a district trainer on Thursday, February 24th from 4:30-9:00 PM. If you do not have access to needed technology for the online self-paced portion, arrangements can be made to provide you with a device and/or internet access. The deadline to register is Monday, January 31st. Please complete this survey to indicate your interest in participating. There are limited spots and an email will be sent to finalize your enrollment in the course and next steps.
Franklin Foundation Valentines for Staff!
This Valentine’s Day we invite you to surprise a Franklin Public School teacher or special staff member with a personally delivered Valentine greeting! Just let us know by completing this form who you wish to honor, and our volunteers will take care of the rest.
Remember, if you would like to recognize a staff member but are not sure of names, use the FPS staff directory to find those favorite administrative assistants and aides, custodial staff or special teachers in addition to your student's homeroom teachers.
Orders are due by February 6th. Your valentines will be delivered to the FPS school or ECC building on Thursday, February 14, 2022.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Amara, a 5th grader in Mrs. Busniewski’s class represented Ben Franklin in the FPS Spelling Bee last week. Overall, Amara placed 4th in the competition and will be moving on with the top 6 competitors to the Regional Spelling Bee. Impressive work Amara!
Each day, children can have a snack at school, just a reminder to please follow the board policy, Student Wellness, #5315 which states, “Food brought into the school will be limited to fruits, vegetables, cheese, yogurt and meat, unless teacher discretion warrants further limitations.” The policy goes on to state that all classrooms are encouraged and in some cases, required to be nut free. For birthdays and other classroom celebrations, food must adhere to the classroom snack guidelines. However, students are encouraged to celebrate birthdays and other holidays with NON food items. Thank you for your cooperation with the district policy.
Have a fantastic week!

ATTENDANCE REMINDER
K-5 SPRING CONCERT UPDATES-MARK AND ADJUST YOUR CALENDARS
Parents - we originally had some K-5 music events slotted on the calendar coming up at the end of January and the beginning of February. We have been reviewing our offerings for the music program and working with Saber Center availability to adjust these events. Moving into the spring, we will be offering concert events for grades 1, 3, and 5 at the Saber Center this year. By offering this event, we hope to present a larger scope for families so they can experience the progress and growth across the grade levels. Therefore, grades K, 2, and 4 will not have a spring concert event this year.
Please mark your calendars for the following event later this spring:
BF Wednesday, April 27 - Grades 1, 3, 5 @ 6:30 pm at the Saber Center
MASK REMINDERS
As we continue to require masks for students, please remember the following:
It’s a good idea to wash your child’s mask frequently, ideally daily if possible.
Please ensure that your child has a few masks to rotate throughout the average school week
Please send an extra mask in your child’s backpack in the event they need another mask
When choosing masks for your child, please look for masks that have 2 or more layers of breathable fabric, cover their nose and mouth, fit snugly across the sides of their face, and don’t have gaps.
If you need help with getting additional masks, please contact the school’s main office.
