Counselor's Corner - November -
Wilton Elementary School
Canned Food Drive
We currently have our annual canned food drive going on at Wilton until November 16th. As leaders it is important that we help others and give back to our community. Let’s Put First things first as we put kindness first and seek to help others. The food items collected will be given to some of our local families in need and some will be donated to ACIM - our local food bank. You can donate any canned food or non perishable food items and place them in your class’s box at the front of the school. The goal is for each class to try to collect 100 items - the students can see their class's progress on the thermometer above their box in the front of the school. The class that collects the most food items will receive an ice cream party. Now that’s a win win!!
Red Ribbon Week
Last week our students and staff celebrated Red Ribbon Week and focused on being Drug and Bully Free. We enjoyed different "dress up" days to show our school spirit and support for "One School, One Goal, Bully and Drug Free".
Student Leadership
Wilton's Leading the Way Team
Our Leading the Way Team at Wilton helps promote our Character Trait each month by helping with our school bulletin board, making posters, and sharing about the character trait on our weekly school news. Our character trait for November is Self-Discipline which is about being in control of ourselves - our words and actions. It’s about working hard and doing your best in all situations. Let's all help our Wildcats learn about self-discipline this month!
Wilton's Student Lighthouse Team
The Student Lighthouse Team met this week and worked on our current community service project - the canned food drive. They made posters for our canned food drive to help promote it throughout the school. They will also be helping to count and sort the food items throughout our canned food drive. They discussed new ideas and ways to improve our current tasks of daily announcements and weekly newscasts. During our meeting they also brainstormed ideas for our Holiday Spirit Week during December as well as possible holiday songs to sing in an upcoming performance for parents.
Wilton's PAW Patrol
Wilton currently has twenty-seven 4th and 5th grade students that serve on our Wilton PAW (Peers Assisting Wilton) Patrol. These students greet our students daily to promote a welcoming environment and help monitor students for safety. We continue to thank our PAW Patrol for their leadership each day!
Classroom Lessons with Mrs. Hockaday
All classes have participated in lessons with Mrs. Hockaday during September and October. All classes have had at least one lesson on bullying. Grades K-3 also began a unit of lessons from the Too Good for Violence Curriculum that focuses on learning to be Peacemakers - recognizing and understanding feelings, getting along with others, etc. Fourth and Fifth grade classes have been doing lessons from the Bully-Proofing Your School curriculum. All classes received a Unity Day lesson focused on Kindness and grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th received Drug Awareness Lessons as well.
Attendance
Congratulations to Ms. Scriven's class for having the best attendance during the month of October! They received a special ice cream treat!
Wilton Wishes
At the end of November, we will begin our Wilton Wishes project where each class "adopts" a child and collects donations of new clothing or toys for that child for the holidays. Wilton Wishes will begin November 22 and end December 6th. More information will be sent home about that closer to that time.
Questions or Concerns
Please reach out to the school if there is a need or concern regarding your child's academic or social-emotional need, or you are in need of a community resource.
