ACADEMIC DECATHLON
Hamilton brought home 1st place overall and 34 individual awards in the Academic Decathlon Basha Invitational over the weekend! Almost all participants made significant progress and we outscored the 2nd place CDO (Canyon del Oro) by over 2500 points. Four top senior competitors gave their spots away to the younger decathletes to gain more experience in this event; both captains have been relentlessly helping AcDec members grow expertise in all subjects before the competition and showed up at the award ceremony to provide extra support. Our AcDec kids all work together to build a strong team and we are heading toward the Regional Competition in February! 👍

WE THE PEOPLE
Your Hamilton We the People Team took 2nd in State at the Annual We the People State Competition. While we beat last year's 1st place winner, Mountain View, we took 2nd to Corona High. 10 high schools across the state and over 400 students competed in this year's We the People Competition. Your team did an amazing job and received excellent feedback from judges - many of which are lawyers, judges, law professors, business owners, and members of government. While we did not take 1st place this year, I could not be prouder of this group of young leaders. They really worked hard this year.
This year, the Center for Civic Education has already offered us the Wild Card ticket to compete at Nationals in Washington, D.C. April 12-16th and represent our school as well as our State of Arizona.
ALEXIS LI AMONG TOP 300 IN REGENERON SCIENCE AND TALENT SEARCH 2024
Hamilton High School student Alexis Li was named in the top 300 of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors called the Regeneron Science and Talent Search (STS).

Read more about her project online here.
The Top 40 finalists chosen from the 300 will receive $25,000 (minimally) and a week in Washington, D.C. in March to attend the Regeneron Science Talent Institute. After undergoing review with the judging panel and presenting their research, the top 10 winners will be selected. The first-place winner will receive $250,000.
Good luck, Alexis!

CUSD STUDENTS CLINCH TOP PRIZE IN SWHD's 2023 TECH CHALLENGE
The community team "Brain Trains" from Chandler non-profit ChandanShamalaLibrary (CSL) achieved success by winning the Southwest Human Development's 2023 Makers of Change Assistive Technology Challenge Level 2 award. Comprising Aratrika, Dyuthi, Renuka, Sanjay, Soham, and Shreya, all freshmen at Hamilton, Basha, and ACP High Schools, earned this recognition for their innovative project addressing Carticovisual impairment.
The team embarked on their journey in August, dedicating five weeks to research, brainstorming, ideation, definition, and paper design for Level 1. They then progressed to building a 3D model and prototype for Level 2, submitting a video presentation and a poster of their solution. After making it through the initial round, they presented in person to a panel of five final judges at the Foundation for Blind in Glendale on Oct 20th, alongside eight other teams selected from 88 project teams across various high schools. The team's exceptional efforts earned them the Level 2 award, featuring a team trophy, a $100 donation for the non-profit, and a $100 coupon for a Glendale paddle/ball place.
The team's collaborative efforts involved meeting regularly after school at a team member's residence. They delved into the intricacies of the brain-vision relationship through research, video analysis, and attending Q&A sessions with challenge representatives and Foundation for Blind experts. Multiple solutions were considered, leading to the development of a comprehensive solution for children with CVI. The team maintained communication with CSL through video and in-person meetings, utilizing resources at the Chandler public library and Prof Jennifer Blain Christen's lab at ASU for 3D printing.
