From the Principal:
Dear Families,
As you know, the State of Washington and Pierce County Health Department released COVID restrictions this weekend. This week, Midland will make changes to our COVID protocols to include optional masks both inside and outside, a lessening of the 6 feet distance requirements, and changes in our contact tracing procedures. It is important to note that we will still have COVID testing available for both students and staff, and the five day quarantine requirement will still be in place for those who test positive. A mask will be required to return for days 6-10 after a quarantine. Our school will continue to contact families if there is a positive case in a classroom and we will continue to take precautions of offering hand sanitizer and having high touch surfaces sanitized regularly. I do want to let you know that our office is now fully open for families to transact school business. Thank you for the many ways you have supported your students and our school through this time. In the event that Pierce County or our school sees a significant uptick in COVID cases, it is possible that we may need to return to our protocols temporarily. I think this will be our new normal.
We have several important dates coming up on the calendar. First, it's important to know that due to conferences at the high school, this week is a full week of school, including Wednesday, which is a regular 3:25 dismissal. Again, we have full days every day this week. Looking ahead to next Wednesday, March 23rd, we will have an 11:55 dismissal due to the end of the second trimester. This time will be used for teachers to prepare report cards. Then, Friday, March 25th is a snow make up day, and since we were not closed for snow this year, it's now a No School day, and March 30th is a 1:55 dismissal, as normal. Remember that Spring Break is only 3 weeks away, April 4-8.
It's great to be a MUSTANG!

Circles of Control
It is important for students to understand that some things are in their Circle of Control and they can and must be in charge of doing their best with these. They also need to understand that many things are not in their Circle of Control and, most often, they need to let those things go and not allow things that we can’t control lead us to feeling worried, grumpy, or powerless. We must focus on what we CAN control and assure that we are doing our best with all that is in our Circle of Control.

PTA and Volunteers Wanted!
Our PTA has historically been an important part of our school community. Truthfully, with COVID and the movement of our previous PTA leadership, we have had a difficult time having an active PTA. I feel strongly that we are missing this important part of our community and it's time to build it up again! I would love your ideas of what you would like to see in a PTA. If you have ideas, please email them to me at pdawson@fpschools.org.
Have you been wanting to volunteer at Midland? It's been almost two years since we have been able to have parents in our building, but we are excited that we can now do so! Due to the ongoing pandemic, we do have some restrictions which are outlined in the attachment below. Our classrooms could use tutors, we would love to have additional adults on our playground, and we could even bring back Friday snack sales during recess if we had adults who could help. Again, please email me and we will get you plugged in!
I'm looking forward to your partnership!
