Newsletter Week 3 Term 3
Shelly Park School - Wednesday 10th of August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Whānau
Last week our senior students finally got to head away to camp. After postponing camp at the start of the year due to Covid, our summer camp turned into a winter one. Camp is a great chance for students to push themselves, try new activities and make closer relationships with their classmates and teachers. Some of the activities that the students took part in were crate stacking, outdoor cooking, flying fox, BMX, paintball, archery, target shooting, bush walking, geocaching and rock climbing. During the nights we had gym games, Minute to Win It and on the last night a very successful and funny talent show.
We strongly encourage all our Year 5 and 6 students to participate in all activities at camp. These new experiences help to build confidence and allow students to shine in a different environment.
Thankfully we had no Covid cases, and our students remained healthy, without any of the winter bugs ruining the camp. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents that joined us on camp. Without parent help we just wouldn't be able to run a successful camp. Thank you for giving up your valuable time, you all had such a positive impact on all the students. Thank you also to the teachers and particularly Kate Allen for her amazing energy and organisation of camp. Only 7 months until Camp 2023!
Parking and traffic outside of school has become a bit of an issue again. Can I please ask all parents to not park on yellow lines, even if you are just stopping to quickly pick up your child. Please make sure you are not parking over our neighbours’ driveways, as I do receive complaints and be aware of the Clearway signs on Sunnyview Ave and John Gill Rd. Finally, please do not do U turns in the middle of the street by pulling into driveways. We have so many students entering and exiting the school during peak times, I would hate to see one of them get injured.
The closing date of the Scholastic Book Club is Monday 15th of August.
Lastly, a huge thank you to all families for encouraging your children with learning their Brainathon work and helping them gain sponsorship for this event. We aim to have a prize draw in our first whole school assembly, in our newly refurbished hall, on Friday, 26th of August.
Ngā mihi
