GT Update
March 27-31, 2017
Kindergarten
This week, we began a multi-day lesson on classifying attributes. We began by defining the word "attribute". I gave them each a box of 60 attribute blocks, and they had to use deduction to find the block that I removed from their box. Then, we sorted the blocks on the smart board using a Venn Diagram. I can tell that they have done a lot with Venn Diagrams in their kindergarten rooms! To finish the lesson, students were able to go to this website, and create their own Venn Diagrams. As an extra challenge, they had to "Guess the Rule", based on where shapes belonged. Next week, we will continue to work with attributes.
1st Grade
We began the week by painting a Chinese New Year phrase that means "Peace and Safety Wherever You Go" on rice paper. Most students were able to bring these home on Friday, unless they were absent this week. Students also watched a TedEd video on the Great Wall of China.
On Friday, we reviewed all that we have learned about China and students created a simplified version of a mind map. This is a way to visually represent what they have learned. We then labeled the cities of Shanghai and Beijing on the world maps on their suitcases. Next week we will have time for students who have been absent to catch up on our China unit.

2nd Grade
Second grade began the day with logic puzzles and perplexors. We spent the majority of our time together this week mapping out their groups' section of the class Geometrocity. They were given math elements they had to include, as well as specific buildings and locations that would be found in their section of a city. I have attached one of the maps they completed. In the coming weeks, we will combine all four parts to make one big city, and create three dimensional paper buildings. After spending a little time in the GT centers, we also read a few chapters of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. New characters were introduced into Edward's life, and the class didn't want to stop reading. Next week we will begin our study of bridges.
3rd-5th Grade
Due to administering the STAAR Reading and Math Test (and an illness on Thursday), I was not able to meet with my third, fourth and fifth graders.
