Top 20 Focus: The Line
What's the difference between a Top 20 and a Bottom 80? Top 20's have a better way of thinking, learning and communicating-or TLC. Top 20's believe they have the power to think in ways that will change their lives and circumstances.
Everyone can be a Top 20 or a Bottom 80. In every part of life-at school, with friends, when we're at home with family-we can think, learn and communicate in Top 20 ways or we can think, learn and communicate in Bottom 80 ways. The biggest difference between Top 20s and Bottom 80s is the way they think.
It's easier to change our attitude-our inside world-than it is to change our outside world-parents, teachers and school. But if we change how we think about our outside world, we'll change our experience in life. That's how Top 20s think. They believe most of their happiness or success is tied to their thoughts. It has very little to do with what happens to them.
This month we will focus on Above the Line (Top 20) and Below the Line (Bottom 80) and we will work on building strategies to help us stay Above the Line. It's neither good nor bad to be Above the Line. It's part of being human. When we are Above the Line, our attitudes, beliefs and moods are very different than when we are Below the Line.
When we are Above the Line, our thinking is working in our best interest. Above the Line thinking brings out the best in us.
When we are Below the Line, our thinking is not working in our best interest. We make poor decisions. Below the Line decisions can make a mess and cause problems for us and those around us.
We want to spend most of our time Above the Line.
Pick Up/Drop Off Procedures
I again ask for your cooperation as it relates to our morning and afternoon drop off/pick up procedures. Please be assured that we work hard to put practices and procedures into place that keep all of our 500+ students safe. We take the safety of our students seriously.
We have a number of students that ride bike and walk to school daily, please be alert and on the look out for these young people learning the ways of the road.
We also ask that you practice safe driving around the school area (slow speeds, no speeding around cars to the front of the line, drop off and load students out of and into your car from the curbside so they don't have to walk into the parking lot). I know mornings and afternoons can be hurried and hectic, but please, exercise caution and safety for the good of all of the Rosa Parks community.
Thank you to those of you that routinely follow the drop off and pick up expectations. In order for us to do our best in keeping all 500+ students safe we ask that you please adhere to the following expectations:
Curbside drop off and pick up is in the lower lot. Please enter the south road from Heron Drive and follow traffic. Wait in your vehicle and students will load/unload curbside. Please do not skip ahead in the line or pull out in front of the line as this can be dangerous for students and for other drivers.
- Please travel at a slow, safe speed in the upper and lower parking lots.
The curbside lane in the upper lot is reserved for buses only. Should you need to enter the building, use the upper lot to park.
Students who walk or ride their bike will be dismissed from the lower doors at the rear of the building and will utilize the walking path.
Please make sure your child knows how they will be getting home each day. Inform your child’s teacher or the school office if there is a change in your family’s plan.
We are committed to keeping Rosa Parks students, families, and staff safe. Thank you for your cooperation!
