Hello Holland Elementary Parents,
Also, Melody Hassid and a host of parent volunteers did an amazing job in running the PTO's Holiday Shop. After students shopped, many proudly showed what they purchased for their family members, and I know they're excited about being able to give during the holidays.
Neither the concerts or holiday shop would be possible without the support of parents. One of the biggest ways that they function as well as they do is because of the time that is dedicated from moms and dads. The tremendous support is impressive. Thank you for your time and your encouragement of the children.
Mitten Tree
Our Mitten Tree has become quite full over the last few weeks. With all of the donations, we've had to find alternative ways to hang the donated items.
Children can still place these items on our “Mitten Tree” that is located at the front of the school. Donations will be accepted until the holiday break. Thank you for your generosity!
Announcements
The PTO soft pretzel sale is on Friday morning! $.50 each!
Homework Club
Holland Elementary will begin homework club again after Winter Break. It will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:40-4:30. We are offering homework club to students in K-6 who may need extra support with homework, and it will be based on teacher recommendation. Homework club is aimed at providing assistance to students who may be having challenges completing assignments at home and/or students who need assistance with study skills techniques. If a child is being recommended for homework club, our Instructional Support Teacher, Mrs. Muncer, will contact parents during the week of December 19th.
You Be The Chemist (YBTC) Challenge - Student Registration Closes December 16th
The You Be The Chemist (YBTC) Challenge® is a fun and innovative academic competition associated with the Chemical Education Foundation and Dow Chemical. The YBTC Challenge® is an interactive event in which fifth through eighth grade students work with both peers and the community to learn about important chemistry concepts, scientific discoveries, and laboratory safety. This program also educates students about the value of science education and the role of chemistry in their everyday lives.
For the past few years, Council Rock has succeeded in this competition sending several students to the state level. The past 5 years Council Rock has sent students to the State challenge in State College and in 2015, one exceptional Council Rock student won the state competition and represented Pennsylvania at the National Competition. We can’t wait to see what this year’s participants can accomplish! A special thanks to Dow Chemical and CREF for sponsoring this event again this year. Please click here if you are interested in learning more. If you have any questions please email Tduke@crsd.org

Online Absence Form
I'm pleased to let parents know that we now have an online absence form for parents to use if their child misses school. It's very simple to use and provides a quick way to document a child's absence without sending a written note in a backpack. The link can be found on the left side of the Holland Elementary School homepage, and it's call "Online Absence Reporting."
