HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 2 - 28 July
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Holy Rosary Facebook gets a facelift
One the many special things about Holy Rosary is our school community. Great things happen here on a daily basis and we’d love to share more of those moments with you. We have introduced the class blogs and revamped the school newsletter – now Facebook is getting a facelift!
Our Facebook has been rebadged ‘Holy Rosary School, Doubleview’ and we have a team of parents working on it to share news, announcements and special moments to keep you in touch with what’s happening.
Please click HERE for Holy Rosary Facebook page.
We encourage you to visit the Facebook page and like, comment, tag and share our posts.
Welcome to the end of the second week of term, which was celebrated in style for us by our Year Two Catherine gang! Congratulations and many many thanks to Jen Rudyard and her students on a great assembly!
Congratulations also to our Interschool Cross Country team who flew at the competition on Tuesday! They certainly gave of their best and are to be congratulated. They attended before school training, ably led by Mr Flexman and Ms Catherall. To Rob and Julie thank you very much for making that commitment to our children to ensure that they were well prepared!
Thank you to all who were able to get to our community P&F meeting on Tuesday. It was a great meeting. Changes are afoot in terms of what our P&F is called and how it operates. In short we are moving in to a new space, and that makes for exciting times ahead.
Assistant Principal Pat Winton is leading our St Dominic’s Day festivities which are on next Friday, and they promise to be loads of fun – what a fabulous way to celebrate the anniversary of our Patron Saint!
Best wishes
Mark de Kluyver

HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS
P&F presents $20,000 to school
P&F President Simon Devlin presented the school with a $20,000 cheque on Tuesday evening, as the parent community contribution to the Year 6 and Year 2 contemporary classrooms. Thank you for all fundraising efforts which make these contributions possible,
Year 6’s cool new contemporary classrooms
The Year 6 classes are enjoying their new contemporary classrooms! Check out this very cool time-lapse video of the classroom transformation.
As you will know, the parent community is supporting and co-funding the introduction of these great learning spaces across the school. We’re hoping to raise a good deal of money from the Lap-a-thon (8 September) to help speed up the roll-out and provide all our children with these great resources.
Minkey Hockey Family Fun Day
Holy Rosary hockey players and parents turned out in force for Saturday’s Minkey Hockey family fun day at Newman Knights Hockey Club. There was food (thanks Peta Berry), face-painting, games (thanks to the Johnson girls), and a bouncy castle; but the highlight was the kids versus parents’ match. Great sportsmanship was on show by the children, with the older players ensuring the little ones had a go. Umpire and organiser Nathan Byrne had his work cut out keeping the parents in line, but generously awarded his wife a free hit for their wedding anniversary! Many thanks to all the Holy Rosary parent coaches and helpers and to Catherine Scott (past parent) for co-ordinating Minkey Hockey this season.
Congratulations Megan Wong on your scholarship!
Megan Wong has received a scholarship from St Mary’s Anglican School for her high school tuition. Megan acknowledges all the support from her mum and dad, and the teachers at Holy Rosary who have provided a strong foundation for her learning. In years to come, Megan hopes to help others in a health-related field. Congratulations Megan, from the Holy Rosary community!
See the full interview with Megan on our Holy Rosary Facebook page.

Jonathon woolfrey - talenting
Get to know jonathon woolfrey
What do you do?
I consult in human resources, but the way I like to conceptualise it is I help organisations to create environments that bring talent to life! This may include problem solving, helping developing people strategy, and through training and development.
Why Did You Choose Your Profession?
In part because I thought my studies would help me become the next Agent Mulder from the X-Files. When it dawned upon me it wouldn’t and I’d spent/wasted 3 years thus far, I changed tack and thought I might try and help organisations make working life better given we spend so much time there!
What was your favourite age at school and why?
About Year 5 (10 years old). I lived in Karratha, and all I cared about was playing footy, cricket and riding my bike around with my friends until the sun went down. Simple life.
What was the last picture you took with your phone?
Without checking, I can say that it would be of one of my kids doing something silly they felt compelled to capture for eternity!
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
My aim as a university lecturer is to try and keep people awake, so compliments like this are a bonus: “I find myself hungry and exited to learn more and have a better educated opinion on just about everything, so you have far exceeded my expectations.”
What cheers you up?
Being silly and dancing with the kids. Always reminds me of what life is all about!
Have you ever been in a food fight?
Every night at my house feels like an unofficial food fight.
What song will always get you on the dance floor?
Many, but in particular, Will Smith’s Getting Jiggy With It. And (un)fortunately my friends and family all know this weakness…
What is your favourite movie?
Billy Madison – it’s such a silly movie, and doesn’t pretend to be anything other than that.
What is your favourite decade?
Most definitely the 90s. The music, basketball was king, the Dockers’ adventure started, I met my wife, and I had little responsibility!
West Coast or Fremantle?
Fremantle. I love the ‘adventure’ of being a Dockers fan!
