Cross Country Running
The cross country season was short but successful. Team members from Gr. 3-9 attended the Hardisty meet on Thursday, September 15th. Everyone worked hard but in the end we did not bring home any team trophies this season. There were many top ten finishes with Jules Forster narrowly missing out on a gold medal in the Gr. 5 girls category. Congratulations to everyone who competed. Thank-you to everyone who helped to make our season successful!

JH Boys Volleyball
The Junior High boy’s team has had a strong start to the season. We hosted a pre-season tournament on Monday, September 19th to practice some game play scenarios. Sedgewick, Daysland, and Viking all attended and everyone learned a lot in a short period of time. The league has begun and it should be a challenging season. Tournaments will begin in October.
Thank you to all of the students, staff, and parents who have helped us to get this season off to a great start!

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
What is Orange Shirt Day?
Orange Shirt Day is a national movement and annual event in Canada. During this day Indigenous and non-Indigenous people come together in the spirit of hope and reconciliation to honour residential school survivors, their families, and communities.
This year’s Orange Shirt Day will take place on September 30, 2022, the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
Residential school survivor, Phyllis Webstad began observing this day in Williams Lake, BC in 2013 at the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event at which told the story of her shiny new orange shirt that was taken away from her on her first day of school at the SJM.
Orange Shirt Day occurs in early fall because this is the time of year when children were removed from their families and forced to attend residential schools.
The residential school era began in the early 1870’s, with the last school closing in 1996. More than 150,000 First Nations, Métis and Inuit children attended these schools. There are an estimated 80,000 survivors living today.

Family School Liason Worker
Did you know... Forestburg School has a Family School Liaison Worker. Donna Ashman comes to our school one day per week and provides free general counselling for students at the school. Because students learn best when their mental health is supported, Donna works with students and families to manage challenging events, focusing on the mental wellness for each student's individual needs. Donna can also provide ideas for support and resources available outside of the school if needed.
Students over 14 are able to consent to seeing an FSLW on their own. They are asked to fill out and sign a simple form that can be found in the office... or they can use this online form Parents and community service providers can also use this same method of referral. Once completed, they can be handed in at the office, or parents can forward them directly to fslwreferral@brsd.ab.ca
If you have questions, you can either ask a staff member at the school, email Donna at dashman@brsd.ab.ca, or phone her and leave a voice message at 780.672.4416 (ext: 6717).
Please note* Anyone aged 13 or younger requires parental consent to see Donna.
