Historical Person of the Year
Seventh grade Social Studies students have been working hard all year to learn about the accomplishments of exceptional individuals throughout the Classical world, medieval times, the Renaissance, and beyond. The excitement and competition that come with the annual tradition of choosing a Historical Person of the Year (HPOY) are still alive and well. Beginning this week, Journey and Legacy students have the opportunity to debate and vote on a bracket-style tournament of historical figures to determine a winner live in classes the week of June 8. Stay tuned to see which historical figure gets crowned this year!

We are thrilled to announce Tamanend’s first ever virtual Talent Show! For those of you who have been tuning in to the fabulous Corona Cabarets, the format for our virtual Talent Show will be very similar. However, the one main difference, is that we are encouraging and accepting video submissions in addition to a few live performances. The Talent Show will air on Teams on Thursday evening, June 11th at 7:00 PM. We hope to see all of you there! Below are some important details you will need to know:
- Please share video submissions with Mr. Sanchez (isanchez@cbsd.org) by Sunday, May 31st. You will need to upload your video to the cloud (OneDrive, iCloud, Google etc.) first before sharing with Mr. Sanchez.
- Submissions should be a maximum of 4 minutes. You may be asked to shorten your video due to time constraints. Please be flexible.
- Music lyrics should be school appropriate – we may ask for a written copy of song lyrics.
- We are encouraging non-traditional talent show acts in addition to singing and playing musical instruments (movie shorts, stop motion animations, etc.). If you are unsure about a particular act, please contact Madame Orinski and Ms. Vitacco.
We can’t wait to see the incredible talent our Tamanend students and teachers have to share!

Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Reminder--Help is Down the Hall
The Tamanend Student Assistance Program (SAP) Team is a group of trained faculty members who can connect students with appropriate help and resources if they show signs of struggling with mental health concerns or alcohol/substance use. If you notice concerns such as major changes in behavior or mood, drop in achievement, or use of drugs or alcohol, then you may consider a SAP referral. When the team receives a referral, we gather more information to determine if there is a need for intervention and further assessment. The information is confidential, and the process is for the purpose of offering help. Anyone can refer a student about whom they are concerned. Referrals can be made at this referral link or by contacting a SAP team member:
Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Cammann, Sra. Corsino, Mr. Dudley, Mr. Heisey,
Mr. Klein, Mrs. Myrtetus, Ms. Scheffey, & Mrs. Szagola

Central Bucks School District is closely monitoring the CDC’s recommendations as well as those from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Bucks County Health Department. You may review the latest recommendations from the CDC on their website at www.cdc.gov. At this time, the best advice is to practice the same common-sense preventative measures that are recommended every cold and flu season, including proper hand washing and staying home when sick.

UPCOMING DISTRICT & COMMUNITY EVENTS
Reminder--CB Cares and CBSD Present an Online Parent Positive Event - Watch On-Demand May 15-May 29
With COVID-19 giving many of us downtime at home with our families, we invite the Central Bucks community to take this opportunity to watch SCREENAGERS NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience. This special edition includes a brief introduction by the filmmaker Dr. Delaney Ruston, plus a pre-recorded Q&A with her after the film, where she responds to some of the most frequently asked questions about the topics covered in the film. Filmmaker and physician Dr. Delaney Ruston takes the conversation around screens and teens to the next level with Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience—a film that examines the science behind teen’s emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and most importantly, what can be done in our schools and homes to help them build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in our digital age.
In Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER, we follow Delaney as she finds herself at a loss on how to help her own teens as they struggle with their emotional wellbeing. She sets out to understand these challenges in our current screen-filled society, and how we, as parents and educators, can empower teens to overcome mental health challenges and build emotional agility, communication savvy, and stress resilience.
We witness Delaney as she finds her way from ineffective parenting to much-improved strategies. We follow other personal stories of families from an array of backgrounds with a spectrum of emotional challenges. We also observe approaches in schools that provide strategies relevant beyond the classroom setting. Interwoven into the stories are surprising insights from brain researchers, psychologists, and thought leaders that reveal evidence-based ways to support mental wellness among our youth. The impact of social media and other screen time is incorporated in all the topics raised in Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER, how it may be impacting our teens’ mental health, and what we can do to help foster youth in the face of struggles.
