Children's House Newsletter

We are off to a great start! The children have nicely settled into our classroom routine. Upon arrival they are learning to independently find their name on their hook and hang up their backpack. After that, they are ready to start the day. During Circle Time we say the Pledge of Allegiance and review the calendar and the weather. The kindergarten children fill in a daily calendar and weather chart. We have also been spending time learning how to serve and clean up snack. Thank you for all of the delicious snacks that have been coming in. Just a reminder, we have 12 children in the class. When it is your child's snack day you need to send in water and napkins in addition to snack. Snack is served in the morning, so please check the Parent Handbook for appropriate snack suggestions.

At this time we still need a Class Parent. In the past, the Class Parent would help me create a monthly sign up sheet for parents to bring in fruit for our food preparation work, and other items for the classroom such as baby wipes, paper towels, and other occasional items as needed. The children love the food preparaton work. These activities help to promote the child's indepedence while they learn how to wash and slice fruit. Squeezing an orange to make orange juice is a great way for children to strengthen their hand muscles in preparation for fine motor activities, such as writing and cutting.

This week we will be exploring colors. What are the primary colors? What happens when we mix primary colors together? The children are sure to enjoy hunting for colors in our classroom as well as outside. The kindergarten children will further explore this concept as we will be exploring variuos ways to mix colors. I wonder what will happen if a paper towel absorbs two different colors of water? Be sure to ask the children later on in the week. The books we will read include Mouse Paint, Little Blue and Little Yellow, Sky Color, and The Day the Crayons Quit.
