- We will be working on the proper use of commas between items in a series.
Reading:
- TEST-Wednesday 12, 2018: We will be taking a reading assessment.
- We will be working on cause and effect. We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become.
- Reading Vocabulary Words: actions, best shows, best summary, conclude, contributes, events, future events, hints
- Vocabulary Quiz: Friday, September 14, 2018
- Your child should continue reading nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
- This week will be talking about early explorers, Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, Juan Ponce de Leon, Hernan Cortes, Jacques Cartier, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, Henry Hudson and Robert de La Salle. We will be talking about their contributions to history, where they came from, what they were in search of, and how we benefit today from their adventures. We will also be talking about early settlements, Roanoke, Jamestown and Plymouth.
- We will also talk briefly about the events of 9-11, and listen to a beautiful song, Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning, by Alan Jackson.

Meet Our Student Teacher!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Hello, my name is Miss Duran. For the next thirteen weeks, I will be working with your child in Mrs. Blackman’s class. I am a student teacher, from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
I will spend my first two weeks in the classroom observing Mrs. Blackman’s teaching methods, learning the daily routine, and getting to know the students. I will gradually assume responsibility for teaching, with total teaching responsibilities during the final weeks. This will be done with guidance and direction from Mrs. Blackman and Mrs. McDonald, Supervisor of Student Teaching at Texas State.
Respectfully,
Shelby Duran
