E-Cigs, Drugs, & Vaping Prevention
Prosper ISD Red Ribbon Week- October 29-November 2
What is Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign.
Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. After his death, people wanted to honor his sacrifice. Local celebrations began in California – where Camarena grew up – in 1985, and in 1988 the National Family Partnership started the first National Red Ribbon Week.
Wearing red ribbons during the month of October continues to represent our pledge to live drug free and honors the sacrifice of all who have lost their lives in the fight against drugs.
How to talk to your kids about vaping, drinking and drugs.
Teenage years can bring new challenges to parenting, especially when it comes to vaping, drinking and drugs. Begin talking to your kids about these topics at a young age before they ever start experimenting. This allows for non-threatening communication to be set between you and your child. You want to establish a relationship with your child that includes openness and honesty. It is important to set clear expectations and consequences. You will also want to discuss peer pressure and what to do when they are placed in situations where these things are occurring.
