Dear Raleigh Hills Families,
It is with much excitement that we welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! As we have learned over the past weeks, this community of staff, families, and students is incredible. In our first weeks here, the community has reached out to our staff to help us in so many ways. Many volunteers bought and purchased food for our Kinder Jump Start program. The giving of time, food, and good wishes during preservice week has filled staff’s buckets. Donuts and staff lunch from the PTO provided the perfect breaks from our preparations. Popsicles at our school supply drop off hit the spot.
Over the past week, colleagues had opportunities to reconnect about summer adventures, engage in active learning and team building, delve deeper into curriculum, and set up their classrooms. When reflecting upon what inspires them in their work, everyone resoundingly talked about our students. This is a reflection of the wonderful community we are proud to serve.
Families enjoying popsicles on the playground may have noticed the progress on the track. It is exciting to know that in the near future, our students will have access to this outdoor option. Seeing all the smiling and eager faces during the afternoon of school supply drop off made all the hours of preparation become secondary compared to greeting and welcoming our students.
To keep you in the loop, our school has been experiencing power outages on some days. We think that the issue was related to air conditioning and that it has been repaired. We experienced full power for the whole day on Friday. If the power does go out during school, we have a plan in place and will continue business as usual.
This video shown at the end of one of our staff development opportunities, sums up the anticipatory feelings felt by all when a new school year approaches. We’re there on the edge of the take off point, and we are about to take off. The ride is so fun! Here's looking forward to a great year!
Warm Regards,
Jennifer and Lindsay

Learning Connection at Home
Partnering with you in your child’s learning is important to us. In the article, Kids Who Succeed Read, Linda Cornwell shares these tips to help children practice their reading skills:
Kids need choice in selecting books appropriate to their independent reading levels.
Kids need to be read aloud to every day.
Kids need positive reading role models.
Kids need to engage in a variety of reading activities every day.
Kids need to talk with others about what they are reading.
Please to speak to your child’s teacher, if you need support with any of these tips to help your reader at home. We know that the key to becoming a proficient reader is practice, practice, practice! Let us know how we can help.
