Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
This week, we have celebrated several outstanding achievements by our students.
First, Congratulations to Coaches Hildebrand and Dunn and our Wildcat swimmers who won the North GA championships on Saturday!!!!!!!!!
Second, we were honored to have our Duluth Middle School (DMS) 8th grade Advanced Guitar Ensemble perform during the Georgia Music Educator’s January conference in Athens, GA. Our students were excited to have the opportunity to perform in a new venue and did an excellent job. Kudos to Ms. Drake, our guitar director and founder of the program at Duluth Middle School.
Last but not least, hats off to all of our coaches, including basketball, cheerleading, dance and step teams for a fantastic basketball season! Girls and boys teams will both be playing in the Saturday tournament at Summerour Middle School in Norcross (boys- 10:30, girls 6:00).
On another note, we have been battling flu and cold season this week with a number of students and faculty out due to illness. Although we are sanitizing the rooms and wiping down keyboards at night, here are some basic reminders to prevent the spread of germs at home and school:
· Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
· While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
· If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
· Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
High-Risk Groups
People of all ages get sick with flu. School-aged children are a group with a high rate of flu illness.
Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza.
Symptoms and Emergency Warning Signs
The symptoms of flu can include:
· Fever (although not everyone with flu has a fever)
· Cough
· Sore throat
· Runny or stuffy nose
· Body aches
· Headache
· Chills
· Tiredness
· Sometimes diarrhea and vomiting
We have seen some cases of students returning to school too soon and then running a fever. Please help us reduce the spread of colds and flu by keeping you child at home if he or she is sick.
Have a great weekend!

Also both of our basketball teams have made it into the Super Saturday Tournament. Both teams have worked very hard to get there. The boys finished 8-6 and the girls finished 10-4.
