Math Place Value
We looked at how digits increase and decrease as we moved across places.
Next week we will continue to work on recognizing that a multi-digit number, a digit in one place, represents ten times as much as the place to its right and 1/10 of the place to the left. (100 = 10x10 and 10= 100 divided by 10).
Reading/Literacy
5th Grade Literacy -Characters
This week...
- using a new acronym FAST, we spent some more time analyzing characters (Feelings, Actions, Sayings, Thoughts)
- we also noted the difference between a character's feelings and traits
- continuing with vocabulary/Word Work (students only have homework if they don't finish their classwork)
- students have been working in teacher led and independent groups
- Word Sort Assessment on Friday
Next Week...
Science
In Science this week, we continued to explore Newton's 3 Laws. Ask your child if they can explain the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces. On Friday, Sept. 16, we will have our first quiz over Newton's first laws and motion graphs. A study guide went home on Monday to help students prepare.
Next week, we will examine Newton's Law of Gravitation and continuing learning about Newton's 3 laws. There will be a Force and Motion Vocabulary Test on Sept. 23. I will hand out a study guide for it next week. The vocabulary for the Force and Motion Unit is available on my Weebly (http://katiemorgan10.weebly.com). I would suggest creating vocabulary flash cards with the word on the front and the definition with examples on the back to promote further understanding.
Brag Tags for Positive Reinforcement
The brag tags are kept at school and will not go home until the end of the school year.
Brag tags are earned when the teacher notices an accomplishment choice, or behavior that exceeds expectations.
Brag tags can be earned for 100% on a test, helping others, good listening and more!!
Behavior Expectations using Leader in Me!!
Agendas serve as daily communication between school and home They are VERY important!

Leader in Me!
