Growing Leaders! October 4, 2020
Hello Furr Families!
This week was the best yet! ALL WEEK LONG, we have had PTO Volunteers(and family members) dressed up as storybook characters, out front, braving the weather and advertising for our school fundraiser, READ-A-THON! The fundraiser ended on Friday and I need to say THANK YOU to OUR PARENTS AND FAMILIES for so generously supporting Furr Elementary! This elementary school gladly partners with our families and community to be able to give back to our students, the best educational opportunities available. Thank you ...ALWAYS...for your support.
ALSO, I couldn't let this moment slip away without giving a BIG SHOUT OUT AND THANK YOU to our PTO! This event, READ-A-THON, is a huge event and went on without a hick-up! Thank you for all of your hard work! The kids have loved all the costumes, the prizes and events that made this so successful! Their passion for reading has been enhanced!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
This week, we also celebrated our CUSTODIANS!!!!! Our custodians are an integral part of the daily activities from day to day. Without giving you details, our students keep our custodians pretty busy. Thank you Larry, Maria, Paco and Maria for all that you do for our students and staff!

2ND NINE WEEKS.....Oct 13th, 2020
Our total enrollment for Furr Elementary is 814 students. Our student in-person base is 46% and virtual is 54%. As we welcome back our in-person schooling families who have made a change to their students learning choice, our teachers, our staff, our Administrators and our Registrar are beginning to prepare for our incoming students. Please understand that as we welcome our in-person students, we will also be welcoming some of our teachers, as well.
This means that your child may experience a teacher change, where they are moved from one teacher’s class to another, so that we can give them the best educational learning environment. Also know that we will be leveling classes as much as we are able to, to ensure that all of our students have the best possible student-teacher ratio in their classes. I speak for both the In-Person classroom and Virtual classroom. We are working hard to minimize any classroom changes but please know that this is a possibility. IF there is a teacher change, the parent will be notified beforehand of this change. Thank you for your patience as we work through this process.

FACE COVERINGS
@FURRELEMENTARY
Face coverings are required for all adults, 4th graders and 5th graders at Furr Elementary. We highly encourage ALL students, Pre-K to 5th grade, to wear a mask. All masks, brought from home, need to follow the PISD dress code requirements. Parents, please pack a mask in your child's backpack where it is readily accessible in case your child needs one. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Here at Furr Elementary, we will continue to follow and implement all guidelines set forth by our governor, local authorities and our district. We continue to enforce face coverings, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and social distancing on a continual basis. Please check our district website, Covid Dashboard, for any and all updates from our district.

EVERYDAY.....HEALTH SCREENER as a GUIDE to Send Your Student to School
Every morning before you send your child to school, please look over the Health Screener to make your decision of whether or not my child should come to school today. WE thank you for taking the time to answer these questions on a daily basis and...keeping our school community safe!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BACK CAR-LINE: This week at dismissal, our BACK car line (M-Z) will convert to 2 car lines. This is to alleviate the huge traffic congestion at the corner of Bluestem, Rambling and Hidden Haven Drives. Also, when leaving our school, please remember to make a "LEFT HAND TURN" out of the drive. Safety for our students and staff is our number one priority! We are asking for patience and grace as this process is implemented.

PICKING UP YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
Parents that need to pick up their child from school during the school day should remain in their car and call the front desk @ 469-219-2280. School staff will then escort the child out to the car and verify identification before releasing the child.

Education, the foundation on which all lives are built. Thank you for entrusting us with your children. The collaboration between teachers, families and students is what builds the solid foundation for our student's educational success. I wanted to thank you parents for your patience and grace. Please know that we are in this together as we educate our kids! Thank you for entrusting us with your children so that we can make the world a better place. It starts with us...Be Kind!
