Thank You For Your Input - 8th Grade Awards Ceremony
In the past, Brunswick Junior High School has celebrated our 8th grade students at an awards ceremony during the school day on the last day of school. With 78% of responses sharing that an evening event would work best, we are going to shift this awards ceremony to be held in the evening at Crooker Theater with student awards and a welcome to Brunswick High School. It is important to us to be able to include students and families who may have commitments during the school day.
Please save the date for this evening ceremony: Monday, June 12
More information to come!
Classroom Highlight
In sixth grade science, students did an experiment with gummy bears to learn about osmosis through the cell membrane. Students first put two gummy bears in separate cups. The first day they were placed in pure water and on the second day one bear was placed back in pure water and the other was placed in salt water. Students took measurements and calculated the volume of the bears before each step. Talk to your student to find out the results!
Student Absences
In order to excuse a student's absence from school we need a written note from a parent or guardian. This can be provided through a hand written note or an email to acolucci@brunswicksd.org
Thank you for supporting us with this process!
Spelling Bee Champions!
We held our Scripps School Spelling Bee on January 11, 2023. Winners: (from left to right): Vivien Mangalam (grade 6), Sam Brassard (grade 7) and Ian Duffy (grade 8). Sam and Ian will move on to participate in the Cumberland County Spelling Bee. Congratulations to all students who participated in this exciting event!

Athletics Update from Mrs. Robbins
Our basketball and cheer season will wrap up on January 30th. It's been a fantastic season for the Dragons! We look forward to seeing our cheer team at our remaining basketball games. Our teams will represent BJHS in the Winter Classic tournament through the Recreation Department during February break.
BJHS will be teaming up with MTA for Wrestling again this year. Wrestling is co-ed and open to grades 6, 7, and 8. Practices will be held the week of January 30 at BJHS and then athletes will be transported to MTA for regular practices and meets. For more information, you can contact Bonnie Robbins at brobbins@brunswicksd.org or Ken Kowalsky at cbadaddya@yahoo.com or 207-272-6814
We will be posting an anticipated Unified Basketball coach position. If we find a coach and have enough sign ups, we will have a team this year! Practices would start after the February break and games would be held in March. We would compete against other schools in our CCC conference. Sign ups will be posted next week. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
Spring sports sign ups will be here before we know it! Stay tuned for more information.
As always, if you have any questions or are looking for more information, you can contact Bonnie Robbins, AD at brobbins@brunswicksd.org
