Today we found out that the Groundhog did not see his shadow, which means spring is on its way...maybe we are done with the snow?! The students also learned what makes a shadow (an object blocking a light source) and practiced making their own shadows using the big screen and projector.

We enjoy our time in the wonder lounge on Mondays

Today was Global play day! The children had so much fun during the play times through out the day. These were unstructured times, when the students could practice using their imaginations and pretend play. We had fun playing with our buddy readers and playing board games. We wrote about the month of February today and all the fun things happening throughout the month. The children wrote about the groundhog seeing his shadow, the 100th day of school, birthdays and Valentine's day. These pieces of writing are hanging in the hall for all to enjoy! It is so exciting so see the student's progressing in their writing.

We are finishing up our geometry unit this week by learning about solid shapes. The children learned to identify a cube, sphere, cone, rectangular prism and pyramid. Today the students created 3-D shapes of their own using marshmallows and tooth picks. They did a great job building and identifying the solid shapes. We will be moving back into addition next week.

Today we finished our science unit on matter. The students found pictures in magazines, and then classified them as a solid, liquid or gas. Also, we made play dough, where we observed a gas (steam from the boiling water, a solid (the bowl, utensils, etc.) and a liquid (water and oil). Each of the children will be brining a little play dough and the recipe home today!
