Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 28 September 2019
Come! Live in the Light!
You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
~ Matthew 5:13-16
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Dear St. Clare School Families,
We have an exciting week ahead!
Today our Student Council and all students in uniform who wish to march in the Parade of Champions since 1995 will grace the streets of Santa Clara along Lafayette Street, Benton and then Monroe Streets. We can’t wait to see a strong showing from our school families. Thank you to Caroline Zelaya and Kevin Farmer and especially to Jennipher Pham, Mr. Payne, Erik and Warni Chee and the Student Council along with our volunteers for participating in this community event. Come join us on Lafayette Street to cheer them on as they pass the school. Olympian and U.S. Soccer World Cup Champion Brandi Chastain and Jerry Smith of Santa Clara Women’s Soccer fame will be the Grand Marshals. Come visit the St. Clare School Booth (#18). We hope to see you there!

TREE TRIMMING (Not the Christmas Kind) | October 7 and 8
On Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8, equipment and personnel from a tree trimming service will be on campus from 8 A.M. until 4 P.M. to trim trees in order to keep them from becoming a hazard to our school and our community.
We wanted to be sure this work was done prior to the start of the windy and rainy season. The elementary blacktop will be closed from activity during this time. We will send another reminder for Drop Off procedures. Students will go directly to classrooms on these two days. Morning Assembly will be conducted over the PA System. CORE INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE | Teachers as Learners
Each week, we engage in adult formation by collectively committing to improving our practice through collaboration, observation and refinement. This continuous improvement process will help us internalize the work with the learner in mind.
There are three core instructional practices that significantly increase student learning. They are:
Clear and relevant purpose for learning
Multiple, scaffolded learning opportunities
Formative data to ensure responsive instruction
Each month, teachers in the Diocese of San Jose gather to share and learn together.
Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) reports that on average, US teachers work the same hours per week as teachers around the world. However, US teachers spend 39% more time working directly with students. The highest performing nations spend significantly more time collaborating with colleagues to plan, analyze data, and improve instruction.
Recognizing that our work is never done, we are shifting our culture to understand that as teachers, we are not merely evaluators of learning; instead we are learners, too!
Thank you for your continued support of our teachers. We are very fortunate to have such committed partners in this mission.
I hope this week brings you joy. Please enjoy Matt Redman’s “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord, My Soul)”.
Peace,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal
