Upcoming Bond Proposal

The FIRST committee presented their recommendation for a bond proposal to the School Board of Trustees on Monday evening. This $258 million bond proposal package includes:

  • A new Cannon Elementary to be built on the site of the old one
  • Expansions to Timberline, Grapevine Elementary, and Heritage Middle
  • Bathroom additions at Bear Creek and Cross Timbers Middle (A Hall bathrooms and two additional teacher restrooms)
  • Two Multipurpose Activity Centers - one at each high school to be used district wide
  • New classroom furniture to reflect LEAD 2021
  • Library updates, reconfigurations, furniture, and collection expansion - for all school libraries
  • Technology infrastructure and purchase of hardware for student use
  • Renovations to the Swim Center
  • Renovations to Mustang Panther Stadium

There are lots of other items - every school is benefitting. This bond will be voted on by the board by February 18. If they approve this bond, it will be slated for bond election the first part of May.

I encourage you to support this package. While it is large, it includes items that we will not get without bond money. It will raise a $300,000 home taxation by about $35 per month. I spend $35 per month on a restaurant meal! Please help educate your neighbors about the items on the bond with facts.

I will talk about what you can and cannot say as a district employee after the board approves or disapproves on the 18th.

Thank you for you patience and perseverance with the benchmarks. It was good to get data on our students' performance, and it was good to practice running the STAAR schedule and groups. Every practice just helps us be better and more efficient with the real STAAR and EOC testing! Thank you - it takes a whole campus to run benchmarks!

Upcoming Events

There are lots and lots of events coming up in the weeks leading up to Spring Break. A couple of ones to mention:

The GCISD Expo is a parent event showcasing the programs of choice: STEM, Dual Language, and ASPIRE. This event is from 5:30 - 8:30 on Tuesday, February 16. We will be using the Black gym, SAC, Lecture Hall, and AVID room for break out sessions. No need to be present (unless you are an ASPIRE teacher) but wanted you to know that lots of people will be in the building so lock your doors.

The CTMS Showcase is fast approaching. I am excited about the event! I have been talking about it at my parent meetings so far, and parents are very receptive to the idea of visiting rooms and getting informational handouts!

We are so happy here at CTMS!

Check out our dance moves (especially Alex in a skirt!) Thank you to Jaime for our JibJab!
