At HSSD, our students are learning from the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. In each edition of The Compass, the Student Services team will share a topic for families to reflect upon. Learn more about Social Emotional Wellness on our website.

Live the 7 Habits: Habit 6: Synergize

Habit 6 teaches us to use the strengths of Habits 4 (Think Win-Win) and 5 (Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood) to create outcomes that feel almost like magic. Synergizing does not just value differences, it truly celebrates differences.

When we are effective, we strive to create third alternatives. More than just “my way” or “your way,” a third alternative is a higher, better way. It’s something that neither person would have come up with on their own. This is the path to synergy.

Synergy is a creative process. It unifies and unleashes the greatest powers within people and families. When you truly synergize, you create “our way,” or the “3rd Alternative,” which is the highest form of creative cooperation.

Action Item: Invite your family to think of a certain issue where you can come up with a third alternative that would help your family get the results you would love to get. Use this strategy throughout Spring Break and see where it takes you!

Added Mental Health Series Event: Let's Talk Grief: Supporting Children and Teens

April 13, 2022 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the District Office (2706 Lineville Rd.)

In Wisconsin, one in 15 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 18 (Jag Institute, 2021). The impact of grief and loss is far reaching and can affect a child or teen emotionally, physically, behaviorally, and academically. Grief can be difficult to understand and uncomfortable to discuss. Join in an honest and open conversation with the Unity Grief and Education Center to learn how children and teens respond to grief, to discover ways to extend support, and to learn what resources are available in our community.

Griffin Dombroski, Bay Port Class of 2020, recently completed the NASCAR Technician Training Program in Mooresville, N.C. This program provides technical training for those seeking careers as technicians in the transportation industry.

He thanks Mr. Adam Cochart, Bay Port Technology Education Teacher, for the impact made on his life. “Mr. Cochart showed pride in his teaching and always pushed us to accomplish anything we wanted to learn in class,” Dombroski said. “He got me set up with an interview…and [I] fully completed a Level 2 Youth Apprenticeship working at Marquis Yachts, all thanks to Mr. Cochart’s guidance and support.”
