The homestead act of 1862 encouraged westward expansion. Any American born male could receive up to 160 acres of government land. If the people lived on the land for 5 years they would receive the land almost entirely free. I believe that this act had a positive impact on the United States.
Economic
Transcontinental railroad is a railroad that stretches across the continental US. The Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroad Companies were asked to build a transcontinental railroad that would link the United States from east to west. The act of building the rail road not only made hailing goods and cattle easier but also joined the two sides together.
Social/Cultural
On May 4, 1886, a labor protest rally near Chicago’s Haymarket Square turned into a riot after someone threw a bomb at police. At least eight people died as a result of the violence that day. The Haymarket Riot was viewed a setback for the organized labor movement in America, which was fighting for such rights as the normal workday.
Immagration: Political
Life on Angel Island was brutal. This island was home to the Asian immigrants who wanted to come to the US for a better life. The poor people who stayed here were kept there for very long periods of time. It could be weeks or years. It is the complete opposite of what happened at the other immigration island, here they were only kept a couple hours tops. I am ashamed of this part Immigration history.
Econimic
The factories at this Time were very unsafe. The Immigrants who worked at the factories were taking a risk with their life at rimes when working at these factories. There was unsafe machinery that was very close to the workers. There were more industrial accidents In the late nineteenth century in the US then any other industrial country in the world.
Social/Cultural
The anti-immigration sentiment protected native born Americans and older immigrants from the harsh immigration discrimination. The US citizens were very rude to the immigrants because of their origin .
Ubanization: Political
Political Boss: a leader in a political party who controls votes and dictates appointments. These men had control over most to all of the average citizen and their day to day life. He could dictate whether a person had a place to sleep at night. I believe that the political bosses were a corruption at this time.

Economic
The panama canal is a canal that goes through panama. As easy as that sounds it took a long time and effort to get this canal for America to use to cut across the continent instead of going all the way around south America. This helps to make trade easier and also for passenger liners to have a shorter trip. This had a major positive impact on the economy of the US.
Social/Cultural
Moral diplomacy:a form of diplomacy proposed by Us President Woodrow Wilson in his 1912 election. Moral Diplomacy is the system in which support is given only to countries whose moral beliefs are analogous to that of the nation. This is cultural because we would give support to countries who' "culture" was one we agreed with.
