May It Be of Benefit

Hello Families,

This photo of Shasta Meadows children "thinking pink" is a great way to remind us all to 'Look for the good'. With Covid numbers on the rise in our county, it's easy to feel discouraged or even fearful, but every day that we're on campus, I'm grateful for the smiles (behind the masks) of your children.

We have much to do to make up for learning that may have been missed during our shelter-in-place last spring followed by the summer break. Many students got less of their normal interactions and educational experiences during the summer of Covid-induced isolation. We understand that some of our students aren't where they could be academically if school had continued uninterrupted, and we feel a sense of urgency to teach as much as we can while we have them on campus (and in their distance learning classrooms). We are looking forward to connecting with you at the end of this first trimester which ends on October 29th to share where students are and where we hope to take them as the school year progresses. Whether schools in our county are required to move to full distance learning or a hybrid model of instruction or are allowed to stay open with safety precautions as we currently are, we are committed to maximizing your child's learning in the time we have. Thank you for partnering with us, and we will see you for virtual conferences in November.

With gratitude,

Mrs. Gold

Parent Portal Plea

If you have not logged into PowerSchool and created Parent Portal access, please do so very soon. The end of the trimester is fast approaching and Conference Week is November 23rd - 27th. Conferences will be offered virtually and your only access to your child's report card will be the Parent Portal. In order to create your account, you will need the unique access ID and Password mailed to you in a letter from the district. This letter was mailed to all families last spring, but if you don't have yours, your child's teacher has one for you and will send it home this week. We are looking forward to connecting with you.

Please Pull Forward

When dropping your child off in the morning, whether you use the south loop (bus loop near the cafe) or the north loop (gym parking lot) please pull as far forward as possible for a couple of reasons. One, if cars don't make use of the entire lane, traffic backs up in the street. Pulling forward allows more cars to get off of Yana. Two, it is not safe for students to get out of the car and walk through the parking lot or in front of or behind cars.

In the cafe loop, please pull all the way through the loop as far as the flag pole if needed. Students can safely exit the car and walk on the sidewalk back toward the gates. We have had some close calls when drivers were waving to their child as they pull forward not seeing other students in the crosswalk.

In the gym loop, if you choose to park, please walk your child to the crosswalk rather than let them walk through the parking lot or loop unsupervised. Ideally, students should get out of the car from the outer lane of the loop and walk along the sidewalk to the gate.

If Your Child is on DL
