Principal Message
Happy New Year Oster Families. Upon returning to school in the new year, our students experienced Smart Start. The focus and purpose of Smart Start is to engage students in the fun of learning and get them excited about the second half of the school year. Throughout the week, students will participate in hands-on and engaging activities to help support the transition back to school. Teachers will offer a variety of activities involving the arts, cooking, music, movement, engineering, technology, and science. Smart Start is the time to set textbooks and workbooks aside and have our students engage in activities that promote collaboration, having fun, and perhaps trying something new.
USD OPEN ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
The Union School District Board of Trustees endorses a neighborhood school concept. The Board, however, recognizes that parents may wish to choose a school of attendance other than the assigned school. Therefore, the Board of Trustees believes that parental choice among the district’s public schools should be included as an integral feature of a well-rounded educational environment.
Home school attendance areas are established to optimize the use of existing facilities and to avoid crowded conditions. However, requests for Intra-District Transfers may be made for reasons of personal preference based on the needs of the family or child.
If you are interested in having your child attend a school within Union School District but outside of your home attendance area, you must complete an Intra-District Transfer Request. Intra-district Transfer requests must be submitted between January 15th and March 1st for the upcoming school year to be included in the lottery for open spaces. Transfers will not be approved until enrollment at each site is secure. Neighborhood children have priority at their neighborhood schools. Please note that transfers are not decided until August.
Health Reminders during Cold, COVID and Flu Season
As you may already know, we are in the midst of flu and COVID season. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind parents that if your child has a fever, is vomiting, or has diarrhea, they must stay home from school. In addition, the district policy is they must be symptom free (no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea), without the aid of medication, for 24 hours before they can return. Even if your child is not experiencing any of the above symptoms, please evaluate them closely if they say they are not feeling well. It is better to be safe and keep them home, rather than send them to school when they may be coming down with something, and possibly spread illness to other students and the teacher.
Highlighting Oster Pride
Recently Oster's Home and School Club ran a Yearbook Cover Contest. I would like to thank all the participates for submitting their entries. They were all very unique and creative which made the decision very difficult. Congratulations to this year's winner...

What is your favorite thing about Oster?
My favorite thing about Oster is how kind and caring the community and staff are! No matter who it is, everyone always greets each other so warmly. It creates such a positive and fun work environment. I feel so lucky to be apart of this community as a new teacher!
Tell us about your family.
I grew up in San Jose with my dad, mom and half brother. Most of my family lives in San Jose or in nearby cities in California! I recently moved back to the area to be closer to family, friends and my significant other. We recently moved into our first apartment together in Campbell!
What do you like to do when you are not at school?
I love to watch movies, try new foods, paint or read a book!!
