Notes from the Main Office
One School, One book
We are more than halfway finished with our reading of Song for a Whale. The read-aloud for Chapters 25 - 30 were just uploaded and emailed out to families today. We are busy planning a special way to celebrate this wonderful story as a whole-school later this month!
Spring Picture Day!
Spring Picture Day will be Friday, March 6th.
Literacy Night K - 5
Please join us for a Literacy Night on Thursday, March 26. More information to come!
Term 2 Report Cards
Our Term 2 Report Cards for grades 1-5 will be coming home on Friday, March 20. We have an early release day on Wednesday, March 25, for parent-teacher conferences. Your child's teacher will be in touch regarding conference times, or please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher if you would like a conference.
Movers and Makers - Enrichment Day!
We are planning on running an enrichment day for students on Wednesday, April 8th. The engaging day will be available for all our students during our school day. In order for this to happen, we will need volunteers to run activities and also provide support throughout the day.
Please join us as a Volunteer Workshop Leader and share your talents! We need many workshops to make this day successful. Please consider sharing your time and talents. You do not need to be an expert to lead a workshop-just present something fun for the students
If you are interested in leading a session, we ask that you are able to commit for the full morning from 9:15-1:00 pm. The actual sessions will only last for 35 minutes but there will be four rotations. There will be a maximum of 15 students in each session.
If you are interested, please send an email to NMESenrichment@gmail.com. Thank you!

Arrival and Dismissal Information
Have your child exit on the sidewalk side of the car.
Do not pull out around a car that is moving in line in front of you.
After dropping off your child, keep moving forward with the traffic flow.
Do not drop your child off in the middle of Lincoln St. to avoid the car line.
Those that use the carline at dismissal please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block personal driveways or entrances to side streets (Bradford, Watercure, Freedom). There is no need to arrive at school for dismissal until 3:15 pm when the back gates are opened. Delaying your arrival will help lessen the potential traffic that may impede access to our neighbors.
Thank you for following these guidelines which will help keep all our students safe and do our part in being a helpful, respectful member of our neighborhood.
If your child is being dismissed as a walker, please make sure the office is aware of the adult picking up your child. If the adult is not familiar to the staff at the Walker Door, he or she will be asked to show an ID. Please understand this if for the SAFETY of our students. Thank you!
Thank you for your help in reducing the high volume of phone calls pertaining to alternate dismissal plans. For the safety of your child, we ask that you put any dismissal changes in writing - either written note or email. HELPFUL TIP: If you are emailing, please send it to your child's teacher as well as our School Secretary, Robyn Monska firstname.lastname@example.org as well as our Front Desk Receptionists Meredith Cosseboom email@example.com, and Dawn Ormont firstname.lastname@example.org. We ask that whenever possible, families notify the school of any dismissal changes before 2:00 pm. And if you are dismissing your child early from school, please do so by 2:45 pm.
A Note from Nurse Susan
Please remember a few guidelines to help limit the spreading of germs and sickness. We ask if a student has a fever, they stay home until they are 24 hours fever free (without any Tylenol or Motrin). And, we continue to encourage students to wash hands often and follow proper hand washing procedures. Please encourage proper hand washing at home too. This is the best way to prevent the spread of germs!
The Health Office is always looking for donations of pants - sweats or stretch pants are preferred. As your children outgrow pants, please consider donating some to our Health Office!

We are hoping for 100% participation from families this year! This will help our PTA to fund field trips and other enrichment opportunities for our students throughout the year. You may pay with cash or a check or VENMO @NathanielMortonElementary-PTA.
Thank you to all who have already donated to this campaign! If you have not yet made a donation, please VENMO, send cash or a check made out to the NMES PTA with your student in an envelope marked 20 is Plenty. (If using Venmo, please put 20 is Plenty in the memo line!) Thank you!
We are continuing to collect Box Tops for Education the "old fashioned" way - just cut and send them in with your student. There is also a new App for Box Tops! This is a streamlined way for our school to earn Box Top money. The new app features technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings! Find more information online at www.boxtops4education.com.
