Picture Pick-up
Pictures have Arrived!
If you ordered pictures from O'Connor Photography, they are available for pick up at the Main Office from 7:30-2:45 (the office is closed from 12:00-12:45) starting Monday, 11/9.
Make-up Picture Day-Save the Date!
If you missed the chance to have student Yearbook/ID pictures taken last month, there will be one more opportunity on Thursday, December 3rd from 2-4pm. Don't be an empty spot in the Yearbook!
This make-up will be similar to last month's drive thru. Students must complete a Health Screening survey on the day off pictures in order to come onto campus. A link to this survey will be sent out to students on Dec. 3rd.
More information regarding ordering pictures will be posted on our website and sent to parents in the coming weeks.
In case you missed the Unity of Community Remembrance Video that was released to the community by Saugus High School last week, here is the link:

Snapshot of his topic...
A detour is defined as a roundabout or alternative course due to the main route being closed. We are navigating through a series of detours today that have the capacity to diminish our potential if we give into disappointment or delay. Join us on November 19th and we'll work through how to make the most of this season and come out stronger on the other end. You'll leave with an actionable plan to immediately counter current conditions on your way to higher ground and a strengthened mindset to take into a bright future. See the ZOOM link below and go ahead and put 11/19/20 @ 6:30 PM on your calendar. Just so we know how many are planning on being there, click on the link below to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you there.
We are going to have a similar presentation for our Spanish Speaking families completely in Spanish in the near future too. We should have the date for that event in next week's Prospector.

Spirit Week this Week :-)
Big Decision for Spring Semester IF we return to school in person... The Deadline was last Friday but please complete the form if you have not yet... Thanks!
IMPORTANT DECISION FOR SPRING SEMESTER
Good Afternoon Placerita Families:
While we are not currently authorized to reopen school, we are actively planning for the day when we can welcome students back onto campuses. Before we are allowed to return, parents will need to choose one of three educational options. Recently, our District sent out information regarding these options. We’ve attached detailed descriptions of each of these options to this email communication. We encourage you to review all options carefully before making your decision. We will also be putting together information in the Prospector on Sunday.
We hope these options will be available to us for the spring semester.
Parents must choose one of the following options:
Blended Learning: Students will be assigned to a cohort and will attend class on campus 2 days per week while participating remotely for 3 days per week.
Online Learning: Students will be assigned to a cohort and will attend all classes remotely.
Independent Study: Students can participate in the independent study program offered by Learning Post Academy using the Apex digital platform.
Here is the link to submit your decision: http://bit.ly/Spring_Options_PJH
All decisions will need to be submitted electronically no later than November 13th.
Thank you for all of your persistence and positivity during this challenging time. We will be including this information on our website, www.placeritajuniorhigh.org as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us and we will be glad to help.

Placerita is a Title I School
What is Title I?
Title 1, Part A, is a federally funded program which provides services to schools based on student economic needs. Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards to improve teaching and learning, and to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Title I schools jointly develop a written parental involvement policy with parents each year called the School-Parent Compact.
In the William S. Hart Union High School District, eight schools are eligible to receive Title I funds and implement school-wide programs as a part of the Elementary and School Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 (NCLB), and the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
Parent involvement is critical in support of student achievement. Each school provides opportunities for families to be engaged and involved in their child’s education to support student learning. Parents are encouraged and invited to become partners in education with each school, contributing valuable ideas, input, and feedback throughout the year which is used to revise school site plans annually.
Parents are encouraged to maintain regular two-way communication with school staff regarding issues involving student learning and successful participation in school-sponsored programs. Parents should also play an active role in assisting their student with academic learning at home, and monitoring their student’s progress.
More information can be found here.

Title I School-Parent Compact
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As a school receiving Title 1 funding, we value your role in working to help your child achieve high academic standards. The following is an outline of some of the ways you and our school staff can build and maintain a partnership to share the responsibility for supporting your child’s learning.
School’s Responsibility:
Provide high quality curriculum and learning materials
Provide you with assistance in understanding academic achievement standards and assessments
Provide you with ways to monitor your child’s progress
Provide opportunities for ongoing communication between you and teachers through:
Frequent reports regarding your child’s progress
Opportunities to talk with staff, and participate in your child’s education
Observation of classroom activities if desired
Participation in parent-teacher conferences, if appropriate
Parent’s Responsibility:
Assist your child in attending school regularly
Encourage your child to show positive school behavior and character qualities
Review your child’s school work regularly
Encourage positive use of extracurricular time, and monitor your child’s appropriate use of technology
Volunteer in your child’s school activities if time or schedule permits
Attend parent-teacher conferences, and participate in decisions relating to the education of your child
Student’s Responsibility:
Participate fully in classroom activities, daily assignments, learning opportunities, and assessments
Attend school every day on time and ready to learn with a positive attitude
Read at home, study regularly, be responsible, and give your best effort at call times
Be respectful, listen carefully, and follow directions
Communicate openly and honestly with parents, and ask for help when necessary
Please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact may also be discussed with you during a parent-teacher conference as it relates to your child’s school progress. Thank you for your support and involvement in your child’s education. Please feel free to contact your child’s counselor if you would like more information (661) 259-1551.
Sincerely,
John Turner
Principal

Questions about Technology and Attendance
If you are having any type of tech issues please call the main school line at 661-259-1551 and we will give you a time to come in to work on fixing it.
In order to clarify a few questions that we have regarding attendance and students being present on either Zoom or Google Meet let's discuss a couple things. First, for students to check in to be counted present they should be present on screen for the teacher to see them. Second, they should mute their mic unless class is in a discussion mode, direct questions are being asked or if they are greeting or saying hi to their friends during designated times during class. It is important to remember that participation is a very important part of any learning environment. In some classes like PE, dance, art or music, participation through visual connection is a part of the grade. We would not want anyone’s grade to be lowered for participation or be counted absent because they were not visually participating. Some teachers are having students respond in the chat to show presence in class. Please encourage your students to participate fully so they can get all the credit they need for participation. We understand there are some exceptions and teachers are working with students in those areas already.
