St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 9 | 17 September 2021

Message from Geordie
Good afternoon everyone,
As we approach the end of the term, I am happy to report that it has been a busy but calm week here at St Bernie’s. I have been really impressed with the way our students have listened to the advice of teachers and worked hard to finish the term off in a positive way – treating each other with Kindness, Honesty and Respect.
This week our Year 6 Confirmation Candidates participated in the family workshop in the Parish Hall in preparation for the Sacrament next term. I would like to thank Claire Bennett for again giving her time to help prepare our Year 6 students and to Father Francis and Angela from the parish and Cormac and Jesseca for their help in making the workshop a success.
Our newly formed Year 4/5 School Choir also participated in the Spirit of the Arts Concert on Monday night which was a huge success. They joined over 1500 students to form a Mass Choir on the night. It was a big day for the girls who would not have returned home until after 9.30pm, however, it was a great concert to watch and be a part of!
In staffing news here at St Bernie’s, I have some happy and sad news to report. After 15 or so years at our school, Andrea Groom has made the decision to resign from her position after the end of this term. Andrea has been a huge part of the St Bernadette’s Community and has supported many of our students in her councillor role. On a personal note, Andrea was a welcoming and smiling face when I started my time here and helped me to settle into my new role – providing me with advice and support. We wish Andrea all the best in her future endeavours, and she has written a letter to our community which is linked below.
St Bernadette’s remains committed to the Mental Health and Wellbeing of all our students. We currently have a Social Worker on site Mondays and Wednesdays to provide psycho-education, advocacy, groups and support for students and families.
The Rainbows Program will continue with the support of our dedicated staff. This program provides a safe place for children who have experienced a life-altering event to express their feelings and help them accept their loss, moving forward in a positive way.
If you believe your child may require support please make a time to chat to your child’s teacher or send us an email through the office at admin@stbernadettes.wa.edu.au
In some exciting parent news one of our parents, Mr Dirk Mulder, has decided to run in the City of Rockingham election for the Safety Bay area. Dirk has been on the St Bernie’s Board in the past, has two awesome kids in Year 1 and Kindy and we wish him all the best for the election!
Next Tuesday is our Open Night from 5.00pm to 7pm. This will be a fantastic, community celebration of what has been a great year so far in our classes. The timetable is below:

At this stage the weather is looking like it is going to be kind to us, and I look forward to performances from our Dance Troop and the Choir. There will also be some displays in our Library and Specialist Rooms for parents to wander through and a Sausage Sizzle for all those who feel like an easy dinner!
Can I please remind parents that the supervision of children is their responsibility and that our staff will be around the classroom areas, however, it is important that parents talk with their children about the work displayed and affirm the work they have done. Please do not let children wander off by themselves as play areas will be out of bounds for safety and compliance reasons. This will be my first St Bernie’s Open Night too, so I look forward to seeing you all there!
Finally, just so everyone is aware, I will be sending out another survey next week to see how the term has been and parents ideas about some of our events. Please watch out for it in the next newsletter – all feedback is welcomed!
Have a great weekend!
Geordie
