Blessings in a Backpack

Our school has been selected as the recipient of the Blessings in a Backpack program! Kaitlyn Blaha, a local student from St. Francis High School, has chosen our school as part of her Girl Scout Gold Star project. Kaitlyn is raising money to provide non-perishable foods to send home in backpacks to low income Hawthorne students every Friday, so families can have food over the weekend.

To make an online donation, click here. Be sure to type in "Hawthorne Elementary School" in the Designation box.

Spiritwear is here!

The PTA is now taking orders for Hawthorne Spiritwear. You can purchase your Hawthorne shirts, hoodies, pants, and blankets online and the deadline has been extended until September 14th! These make great holiday and birthday presents for Hawthorne students!

Scouting at Hawthorne

The Boy Scouts of America would like to start a Family Scouting pack at Hawthorne (this would include boys and girls). First Presbyterian Church has agreed to pay the initial start up cost, and we would need 5 parents to lead the pack. These roles include a Den Leader and Cubmaster, and a pack committee. For more information, you are welcome to attend the Scout Night on September 13 in the Hawthorne Gym at 7:00 p.m. (enter through door 14), or please email Principal Danielle Moran (danielle.moran@cusd200.org) to request a copy of the "Cub Scout Parent Orientation Guide". If you cannot make it to Scout Night, please feel free to call Sarah Moore from the Boy Scouts (630) 797-4646.

Morning Running Club

When: Every Monday and Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. starting Wednesday, September 5th - November 14th.

What: Running club is meant for students to get some exercise before school. Students are working towards completing a marathon which is 132 laps around the track or as many laps as they can during the running club season.

Where: Students will meet at door 13 by the stairs, outside of the gym. We will be running outside on the Hawthorne track.

Who: All Hawthorne students are welcome to attend running club. Students can show up and they will receive a running card that they will use to track their laps.

Other Details: In the case of a rain out, running club will be cancelled for that day. Mr. Q, PE teacher, will post cancellations on the Hawthorne Elementary School PTA facebook page as soon as possible. Rain outs will not be made up in the gym. Lastly, parents are welcome to help out and mark laps and cheer on the students.

Students will get a chance to preview the book fair with their classes, to check out what's there and make a list of what they like to take home so parents can have an idea of what books they may want to purchase. The book fair will be open during parent-teacher conferences on Sept. 18 and 20. These make great holiday and birthday gifts!!!

The Book Fair will be set up in the LLC this year! Please sign up to volunteer here.
