We are continuing to work our research paper on the Titanic. Students will be expected to work at school and home to complete the assignment. All expectations are in the students' homeroom Google Classroom. If you have not received a hardcopy of the expectations and deadlines from your students to sign, please be sure to ask them about it. The final paper will be due March 5. We have been working on rough drafts in class and will continue to do so next week. Rough Drafts are due February 26.
As a reminder, this quarter, we are putting an emphasis on sustained reading. Please help your child remember that they need to have a book that they are reading every day. Once a month they will have a project to complete on the book they choose. The next project will not be until after the Titanic Paper is due, but please help make sure your child has a book to read at all times.
We are still working on our IXL Challenge! Please encourage your student to continue to compete at home and practice their reading and math on IXL. Students can complete any starred IXL option in the sixth grade tab. We are currently focusing on Math U IXLs. Donations of small prizes for our classes would be greatly appreciated!

Payne- Your student should have the at least one page of their paper written by Monday. We will continue our weekly guessing jar to practice finding Mean, Median, Mode and Range and review grammar and math skills daily. During WIN we will use Reflex, IXL and ALEKS to review math skills. Each student should have a grade level appropriate chapter book that they are reading at all times.
Phillips- Your student should have at least one page(2 topics) of their paper typed by Monday the 26th. We will continue to practice the RACE writing strategy, focusing on the explain portion of the process. We will begin a reading log on Monday January 8th as way to keep track of how many pages are read. My goal is for each student to read at least 100 pages per week, Our class will go to the Library on the 15th and 20th of February. This will be a great time for them to pick out a book for their next book report. We will assign the next book report soon.I have decided to name Quarter 3 the Quarter of "TRY". I am challenging my students to step outside of their comfort zone this quarter. Read a more challenging book, try 7th grade IXL skill, use rich, vivid words in their writing, ask questions, work with someone new, or be brave and answer a question even if they are not sure they are correct. Many students are embracing this challenge. Please continue to encourage them!
