Butterfly School News - APRIL 2020
Sadly, it's now official, the Coronavirus has unfortunately permanently impacted our 2019-2020 school year. For the health and safety of our students and faculty, I regrettably must direct that RBS will remain closed for the remainder of this school year. I never could have imagined my goodbyes to our students at spring break would actually be for the rest of the year! There are not sufficient words to describe how I miss our delightful Butterfly School children, their families and our dedicated and caring teachers. Although we will not be able to have a spring program, we are looking at options to recognize our sweet fours as they move up and on to kindergarten. Your teachers will be providing you more details and information soon. We are considering ways to facilitate an on-line Graduation program sometime at the end of May over Zoom.
As we take all the precautions necessary to keep our families healthy, I want to remind you again that our children are watching how we respond. Let’s work together, help each other and remain faithful to God. Hopefully this time has brought your family closer together.
Looking forward, I know I will especially appreciate our time next year. It is April and I am excited for September! Until then, please take care of each other and wash your hands!
Please take time to read the messages our specials teachers have posted. There are activities and links they have shared!

Musical Moments! Ms. Deborah
Hello Butterfly School Family!! I have missed seeing all of your smiling faces. In this unusual time in our world I hope that music has helped bring you joy, relief, and hope. Here is a brief article on “The Joy of Music!” The benefits for children and how to incorporate music with things you have at home. http://bkc-od-media.vmhost.psu.edu/documents/tips0803.pdf
Also, here are a couple of websites that have simple instruments to make from things you might have at home. https://feltmagnet.com/crafts/Music-Instruments-for-Kids-to-Make
https://artsycraftsymom.com/diy-musical-instruments-for-kids-to-make-and-play/
Pots, pans, and wooden spoons are a great way to have a musical experience as well. I would love to see what you come up with! Just post to Butterfly School’s Facebook page playing the instrument you made to a song you love or a beet that gets you moving. I’ll look for you there. I love all of you and I look forward to seeing all of you again soon.
Amazing Artists at Butterfly School! -Ms. Jennifer
Hello Artists! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy at home. Lately, I have been busy working on my front windows displaying my artwork. Some of my artwork include pictures of animals, jokes and words of encouragement for my neighbors to enjoy during their walks. I want you to join in the fun and draw a few pictures for all your neighbors to enjoy too. Make sure to post on your class FB page. I pray that I get to see your smiling faces and receive big hugs soon. Take Care and God Bless!
Spanish! Ms. Sandra
Hello my friends (hola mis amigos!)
I hope you are all doing well! Are you enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve had recently? I’ve been busy outside and finding new things to do. One of the things I’ve been working on is making a list of all the songs we’ve sung this year! I’ve even added a fun new Easter song for you to learn. I would love to see you singing them on our Facebook page!
I miss all your smiling faces and hope we get to see each other soon!

Movement Matters -Ms. Kayli
Wow! I cannot begin to put into words how much I miss you all! I’ll always cherish each morning I got to greet you all at the doors! I hope you are using this time to keep active. Being active and moving is so crucial to a healthy mindset. I challenge you to keep active, take more walks, and even do some yoga!
I miss you all and love you more than you know!
Keep MOVING!
Super Sign Language -Ms. Luella
I have missed everyone so much! I know this has been a difficult time, but God is in control and I trust Him completely. I am praying for you and your families. I am praying we will be getting back to normal for April. If we are able to come back in April we will continue working on the letters, numbers, colors and words from March and then we will slowly add in April words. For April the threes will be leaning signs for Z, E, U, purple, eight, and signs from the unit Easter, Zoo, and Farm. The fours will be learning signs for E, U, R, purple, and signs from the unit Easter, and Spring. We will also learn about Heather Whitestone a deaf Miss America! And we will learn the chapel Bible verse for April with signs.
If we are not able to get together in April, I recently found a YouTube person, Jack Hartmann which has some signs with his videos. Here are two that I think your children would enjoy. The first one is See it, Sign it, Letter Sounds/ASL Alphabet, this shows the letters, their signs and the sounds of the letters. You can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjmKJKG5Nx0
The second one is Alphabet Sing and Sign/ASL songs for Kids, on this one he shows the letters, sounds and shows a sign for a word that begins with that letter. You can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BUIfsKe4c0
I hope you enjoy these videos. It is one good way to help the children remember the letters and their signs. Praying you all stay safe and healthy.
Library- Ms. Lee
I love my job and I am so missing my Butterfly students and the library time we have together! I am going to keep my suggestions very simple. I know my students are enjoying good books while they're at home because they love literature. I want to suggest that you extend your home library with eBooks. Kids World Fun.com has free animated eBooks. Vooks.com offers one month free of animated read-aloud storybooks designed for children 2-8 years old. Epic Books for Kids is another great website to visit. Digital libraries offer high quality literature and I encourage you to explore them! Also, a special book nook can enhance your child's reading experience. I put a big blanket, pillows, and books in one of our bathtubs and it's my daughter's new favorite spot to read in our home. A corner of a room or closet with pillows, a lamp, and favorite books makes a special reading spot.
I miss everyone. You are in my prayers. Be safe!
Sensational Science- Ms. Tracy
Wow! I’m missing our Friday science days so much and It’s been so sad not seeing all the kids. For the month of April, I want you to get outside—science is everywhere! Take your family on a walk (observing social distancing of course), get some exercise and look for science in nature. I’ve attached a checklist you can print and take with you. Please stay safe and know that you have been and will continue to be missed.

Coding Kids- Ms. Susan
I sure do miss everyone and hope you all are doing well. I am including a link to a website that talks about the importance of coding and some fun screen free activities you can do with your children while they are at home with you. When we were in class we were learning our left and right so we could program our Bee Bots and Code-a-pillars. They were all doing great! I am including a video they can watch and follow along with to keep practicing their left and right. I miss you all have fun coding!!!
