Cardinal Productions Takes 1st Place!
Cardinal Productions - Mr Robinson
Varsity Girls Soccer - Coach Erpelding
Last Thursday we played the best team in the league by far and we walked away with a 0-3 loss. As much as I hate losing, this is one I, and we, as a team can stomach. The girls played their tails off! They never quit no matter that Spring Hill was the better team and we were in our defensive half all night. Our defense was awesome last night from the front back. Our backline was really good. Mallory Vickers (11th) played the best game of her career! She was stellar! Lauren Grauberger (9th) really grew up this game! She stepped up big time! Harleigh Moore (12th) might also have played her best game! Harper Andrews (9th) and Kyleigh Musick (9th) were really good as well. Kate Erpelding (12th) did a great job playing centerback. Now Leah Williams (12th) was the player of the game for us and maybe overall! 19 saves on the night! Some were very routine but some were pretty awesome! This is what Leah can do when she is locked in and playing with confidence. The backline and Leah kept us in the game. We only got 4 shots off on the night. They got 29. But that will happen when their first 16 all play high-level club and we have five girls that play high-level club. I just loved the fight in our girls last night. If we can match that every night and play defense like that every night. We will be extremely tough to beat!!
Friday night the team traveled to Ottawa and it was wet and cold and very slippery. We handled it fairly well but with a wet ball, it was tough to do a lot of things on the ball we normally do when it's dry. But we adjusted and we were able to score three and win 3-0. The defense played well and Leah earned her second shutout of the season. Senior Alex Pascua got us on the board first when Kate found her on a through ball in which Alex tucked away. Alex got her brace not long after. Kate found freshman Xin Clobes which took a nice shot. The keeper spilled the save and Alex was right there to put the spill away. Brylee got goal number 3 and the first of her career. Kate played a great through ball and senior Brylee Graff calmly settled and tucked her shot away. We had numerous opportunities to really stretch the lead, but their keeper made a few saves and they had a center back that saved their bacon several times. You could tell about halfway through the second half we were getting tired. Three games in a week is very tough especially playing Louisburg and Spring Hill. I was proud of the girls for not allowing Spring Hill to beat us twice. Now we just need to get ourselves to continue to gel and get on a roll and put some wins together.
Technically our game last night vs Bishop Seabury was an away game played on our home field. That is just the start of it. Luckily I wash the uniforms so there was a lot here, but having to switch to white last minute was tough. It got us a bit out of sorts. This and not practicing yesterday bled over into the game and we started very sluggish. Plus going against a pretty stiff wind did not help. I believe the wind is what gave them a little momentum to stay in the game because once we switched at the half, they only had three chances and only one was good. In the first half, we just looked like we hadn't practiced in a couple of days. Just a little bit off. Not bad by any means but just off. We scored goal number one off a corner from freshman Jayla Erpelding when she served in a great ball and Lauren Grauberger was able to get to it and chest it in for the first goal of her career!! Nice little freshman to freshman combo! Hopefully, we see a few more of these in the years to come. Our second goal came from Alex. She collected a clear and hit a 30 yard shot into the wind. The wind knocked the ball down enough to make the keeper misplay it, we were up 2-1. Alex made it 3-1 when Kate was able to pass Alex in behind their line. Alex hit the first shot at the keeper but got the rebound for the finish. Goal number 4 came from Jayla. Kate found Jayla wide open on a simple square pass. Jayla then hit a shot from about 25 or so out that dove into the lower left-hand corner. The wind helped this shot a bit too by knocking it down. Being up 4-1 was great but for some reason, I didn't feel comfortable. We did control the second half, giving them very few chances and we had quite a few. Alex made it 5-1 after Jayla went on a dribble to the right and swung a great cross in that Alex got on the end of and put away. This completed Alex's hat trick. It's been a while but I believe this is Alex's first hat trick of her career. I can't remember if she had one as a sophomore or not. We kept the pressure on the rest of the half and had 3 or 4 really close misses, that we need to put away. The defense of Harleigh, Mallory, Lauren, Harper, Kyleigh, freshmen Liz Mueting and Caitlyn Peterson played well and got themselves organized especially in the second half. Senior Rachel Pratt played a great game! She stops a lot of attacks and recovered very well. She is really growing into her role as our holding mid. Our goalkeepers did a good job last night. Leah was tested a couple of times but as usual, was solid. We were able to get everyone on the field last night. It's always nice when we can do that. Next up is Basehor on Wednesday at home. JV is a 4:30 kick with Varsity to follow around 5:45ish.
JV Girls Soccer - Coach Weirick
JV wins against Ottawa 2-0 last Friday night. It was a very rainy game but the squad was ecstatic to play, nonetheless! We came ready to play and spend the majority of the game in the attacking half. We had many scoring opportunities but our first goal of the game was scored by freshman Natalynn Tuckness! I loved how our whole team celebration after that first goal. It really shows how well the team works together and is genuinely happy for one another. Our second goal was scored by freshman Xin Clobes!
A couple of shout-outs!
Freshman Josie Brooks played an excellent game at holding mid as well as helping our backline. Josie has always been super positive and willing to play anywhere on the field.
Freshman Addison Metcalf plays her heart our frequently making many runs up and down the field to assist with our offense and defense! Junior Madison Grosdidier has played about every position on the field this season! It’s a lot to learn all the positions but I’m proud of her progress!
Natalynn said after the game “I love this team!” And I couldn’t agree more!
Varsity Softball - Coach Finucane
Last Tuesday the varsity softball team took on a very good Spring Hill team. Spring Hill took an early lead in the 2nd inning and Eudora struggled to keep up through the game but gave it a valiant effort. SHHS came into this game haing never been scored on, but the Lady Cards would change that. EHS scored a single run in the 6th inning adding two more in the 7th, but fall 3-5 in game one. The Cardinals out hit the Broncos 7 hits to 5. The scoring for the Cardinals was highlighted by a home run in the 7th inning by freshman Lily Rife. Senior Jayla Pierce and sophomore Addison Woods each had two hits to lead the Eudora hitting attack. Junior Kira Baker pitched all seven innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 8.
Game two was an exciting back and forth nail-biter with the Cardinals falling just a bit short in 9 innings, 9-7. Eudora led through the first 3 innings, but lost the heartbreaker in the end. Eudora took the lead in the 2nd inning 2-0, on a single by Jayla Pierce, a double by Kira Baker, then another double by Kenzie Yoder. The Cardinals regained the lead again in the 3rd inning after Spring Hill tied the game in their half of the third 2-2, on a home run by junior Harper Schreiner. In the 4th inning Spring Hill took the lead back scoring 3 runs and Eudora added 1 run in their half of the 4th and another run in the Eudora 5th inning for a score of 5-5 after 5 innings. Spring Hill scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead, which lasted until the bottom of the Eudora 7th. With two outs and nobody on, junior Elli Han was hit by a pitch and took first base, then Senior Jayla Pierce crushed a ball out of the ballpark for a two-run homer, and a tie score of 7-7.
Eudora held Spring Hill scoreless in their half of the 8th inning. The Cardinals had an opportunity to score in their half of the inning with Lily Rife singling to start the inning, then reaching second base with one out. The Cardinals offense was unable to get that run home, so we headed to the ninth still tied at 7-7. Spring Hill manages to score a couple of runs in the top of the ninth taking a 10-7 lead. Freshman Rylee Griffin singled with 1 out in the bottom of the Cardinals 9th inning, but was left stranded as the Cardinals fell in the tough extra inning game 10-7. The Cardinals battled the entire game against the undefeated Spring Hill team, knocking out 11 hits, two of those being home runs. Freshman Rylee Griffin, Kira Baker, Jayla Pierce, and Harper Schreiner all had two hits to lead the Cardinals Varsity.
Last night vs rival Baldwin junior Kira Baker struck out 12 in 5 innings as the Cardinals beat the Baldwin Bulldogs 12-1. The Cardinals scored 5 runs in the fourth inning. Freshman Parker Long scored from third on a passed ball to start the scoring, then Lily Rife scored on a base hit by sophomore Addison Woods. After a walk to Kenzie Yoder, Harper Schreiner singled and senior Kourtney Balluch, who was pinch-running, scored. Eudora scored their 4th run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Rylee Griffin to center field, bringing Addison Woods home. Kenzie Yoder scored the 5th run of the inning on another passed ball. In the Cardinal's half of the 5th inning, they racked up 7 runs to put the game out of reach. The inning started with a couple of walks to Jayla Pierce and Kira Baker. Lily Rife then put down a perfect bunt along the third-base line which loaded the bases. Junior Taylor Hadl doubled to center field driving in Pierce, Baker, and Rife. Some key hitting by Kenzie Yoder and Kira Baker along with some disciplined hitting resulting in a few walks, Eudora scored the last of the seven runs in the inning. The bottom half of the 5th inning for the home team Bulldogs belonged to Kira Baker. She threw 7 pitches getting two strikeouts sandwiched around a ground out back to the pitcher. Baker got the win with 12 strikeouts and allowing only 2 hits. Taylor Hadl, Harper Schreiner each had 2 hits to lead the Cardinal.
EHS will travel to Wellsville on Thursday to take on the Eagles at 4:30pm in a doubleheader.
JV Softball - Coach Hodges
The Eudora Girls JV Softball played a Double Header with Spring Hill on Tuesday, April 13th. The first game started with a 0-7 run by Spring Hill in the first inning, and our girls could not dig out of that hole. In the second inning, Spring Hill went on to score 13 more runs and another six in the 3rd inning. Our last at bats, Freshman Harlie Dougherty hit a double into centerfield, Harlie stole 3rd and Freshman Lily Cooper laid down a beautiful bunt to bring Harlie home. That was our only run scored for the game. The final score was 1-26
In the second game, our defense started out well and only gave up two runs in the first inning. We struggled at the plate and by the second inning, Spring Hill went on a scoring spree and we gave up 17 runs. Our struggle at the plate in 3 innings kept us from scoring. The final score was 0-20.
The JV played a single game at Baldwin, on Monday, April 19th. The girls came away with their first win of the season with a score of 6-5. Freshman Rylee Griffin pitched the win and contributed offensively with a couple of singles to score a run. Junior Rylee Calhoon was the top hitter of the night hitting two double and knocking in the winning run. Freshman Parker Long made two outstanding saves in centerfield with a diving catch and a textbook drop step back towards the fence. Senior Kourtney Balluch stepped up to the plate with bases loaded to hit a power single on the left side to drive in a score. The girls came together on offense and defense to pull the upset.
The next scheduled doubleheader will be with Wellsville on Thursday, April 22nd, at 4:30 pm.

Senior Sebastian Lewis took a hard luck loss in game 1. Lewis gave up just 3 hits over 7 innings, but defensively the tea was not up to the challenge. The Cardinals made 4 errors which led to all 3 runs Lewis gave up being unearned. The Cards out hit Spring Hill with 5 hits but could only push 1 run across. Senior Keaton Herron singled, advanced to third on Lewis’ hit, and scored on a senior Zeke Reazin sacrifice fly.

The game was a sloppy back and forth affair in which the Cardinals came up a little short. The offense again outhit Spring Hill but came up a run short on the scoreboard. Eudora committed 4 errors and combined with 8 walks Spring Hill scored 11 runs including 4 unearned runs. Junior Trenton Long started on the mound, he was relieved by sophomore Mason Cox and senior Dylan Meier. Juior Taggert Courter lead the offense with 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Seniors Gavin Hobson and Will Schreiner both collected 2 hits. Junior Bryce Clark, Trenton Long, Zeke Reazin, Mason Cox, and Dylan Meier all added a hit. The offense scored in the last four innings and had the tying run on base but couldn’t get it across.

Senior Sebastian Lewis was Perfect! The offense was pretty good too. Sebastian was the story of this game which was shortened to 5 innings because of the 10 run rule. Lewis walked no one, stuck out 10, gave up no hits, and the defense was perfect behind him. He picked up his first win of the season. The offense got started in the 4 th inning when Gavin Hobson beat out a grounder toward third, stole second and advanced to 3 rd on the catcher’s throwing error. Sebastian Lewis then drove in the only run he would need with a single to left. Trenton Long then singled to drive in Keaton Herron and courtesy runner senior Jace Tener. Long would later score on a wild pitch to total 4 runs for the inning. Bryce Clark would score the next inning after he singled and stole second the scampered home on an infield error. In the 5th inning the Cardinals delivered the knockout blow when they scored 9 runs. The inning started with a Zeke Reazin single, he would later collect his 2 nd hit of the inning when he drove in Jace Tener. Gavin Hobson and Trenton Long joined Reazin with 2 hits for the game. Bryce Clark, Lewis, Will Schreiner, and Dylan Meier also added hits. Trenton Long was the RBI machine as he drove in 4 runs for the game.

Trenton Long took the mound for game 2 but ran into some tough luck giving up single runs in the first and second innings. He battled for 5 2/3 innings before being forced out because of the pitch count. Junior Jaykob Lemonds came in to hold the score in the 6th inning and then pitch a scoreless 7th to pick up his second win of the season. The offense kept fighting back to tie the game three different times and in the third time was charming as they also took the lead. Keaton Herron and Sebastian Lewis turned their hits into 2 runs to tie the game up at 2-2 in the 4th. In the 5th inning Dylan Meier reached on an error, stole second and would score on Taggert Courter’s groundout. With 2 outs, Bryce Clark singled, stole second and scored on a single by Herron. After giving up a run in the bottom of the 6th the Cards were down to their last 3 outs. Taggert Courter singled to start the rally then stole second. After two hard fought long at bats by Clark and Hobson, Courter was still at third. Keaton Herron repeated his performance in the 6th inning and singled to drive in the tying run. The Cardinals weren’t done as Lewis singled driving Herron to 3 rd and Long drove in Herron for the winning run. With the win the record is now 5 wins and 7 losses.
JV Baseball - Coach Mathern
The team got off to a rough start in the first couple innings of game one. Offensively we struck out 5 of the first 6 times we were up to bat. The third inning the bats going and put up 4 runs. The boys had a couple of hits here and there but could not string them together for a run until the 6th when we platted one more. Our pitching staff of junior Jaykob Lemonds, Tyler Foltz, and sophomore Cole Parker did a good job and combined for a total of ten strikeouts and only gave up 3 runs. EHS victory 5-3.
Game two did not go as planned. We actually hit the ball really well but just never could find the gaps or string too much together. We scored 4 runs in the first three innings and then added another run in the sixth. Pitching was not all that great and because we were going to play again on Thursday, I left some guys in there too long. We ended up dropping the second game 5-16.
Thursday, April 15 vs. Lansing
I do not have the book in front of me so I won't go into too much detail on these games. I will say that we finally hit the ball and scored about every inning in game one. It felt good to have every kid in the lineup hit the ball well and move runners around the bases. Lansing did the same in-game one but we were able to out hit them and have fewer errors and got the win 14-12.
Game two was a tight one! We led up until the 5th inning and then found ourselves down two in the bottom of the 7th. Again I do not have the book in front of me so these may be out of order. We got the lead runner on and he scored on a bach because the pitcher did not come set. A couple of walks and a base hit scored another run to tie the game. Now the bases are loaded with one out and freshman Brayden Handley was up to bat with Jake Lemonds on third. I told Jake to run on contact because the game was tied and I wanted to be ultra-aggressive and go for the win. Brayden hits a blooper just behind the second baseman and scores the game winning run! This makes the second walk win this year for the team. Cardinals win 8-7
The boys told me after the game that this was the first time in at least three years that JV had won both games in a single night. It just shows how hard these boys have been working and getting better every day.

Meet Summary - Shocker Pre-State Meet - 4/15/21
Notes: Nine varsity athletes traveled to Wichita for the Shocker Pre-State meet this year. This two-day meet gave some of our top runners an opportunity to compete against athletes we would not see in our regular schedule and to get familiar with running at Cessna stadium where the state championship track and field meet is held in May. Some of the athletes competed in a 4A-6A division while others competed in an “Elite” division which includes the top entries from all classes in each event. Cold weather, rain, and wind made running personal best times difficult on Friday. Sydney Owens and Stella Whalen both placed in the top three in elite division events. The varsity teams come back together next week for our home meet, the Cardinal Relays, on Thursday, April 22nd.
Team Results: The girls placed 4th out of 14 teams in the elite division events point total. The boys did not score in the elite division.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2021 PARENT:
Please submit a senior picture and a baby picture for your student to be included in the graduation slideshow video. In order for the graduation video to be produced in time, we need these pictures asap. Seniors can bring their senior photo and baby picture to the EHS Office to be scanned, or drop it off with Ms. Kimberlin during temp checks in the morning. Pictures will be scanned and returned to the student the same day. Alternatively, you can scan your pictures at home and email them to carakimberlin@eudoraschools.org.
*If your senior has already provided Mrs. Schriener with a senior picture we will use that for the video but will still need a baby pic.
Cardinals Care Fund
The Eudora Schools Foundation (ESF) and the Eudora Schools are pleased to announce our Cardinals Care Fund. Take a look at this announcement video: https://youtu.be/8e2hqUDJp_I
The ESF's Cardinals Care Fund was created to meet the urgent, immediate, and basic necessities of Eudora students, to ensure that the student's physical, social and emotional needs do not stand in the way of their success in school. This program helps fill needs unmet by any other source. If you or you know of someone that has a need, please reach out to your student's school.
ESF administers financial assistance for emergency needs such as food, clothing, medical, transportation, utility, and housing. Of course, some requests are unique and fall into no specific category. Please note, this is an emergency fund and money is limited.
Streamed games - Ms Kimberlin
Cardinal Nation:
EHS has joined the NFHS (National Federation of High Schools) Network and installed new video technology at Eudora District Stadium and in the EHS Gym that will offer you the opportunity to subscribe so that you can watch all of our events at home. By subscribing you also have access to games at any school EHS plays that have the NFNS system; DeSoto and Piper are examples, as well as thousands of other schools across the country that are part of the NFHS. In these times of limited attendance, we strive to be able to offer all we can to our fans and students to be able to watch our events whether at home or on the road. Please go to NFHSnetwork.com and search for Eudora High School to see upcoming events your Cardinals are competing in. Thank you to all parents and spectators for your support and understanding during this year of unprecedented changes.
To subscribe to the NFHS Network go to www.NFHSnetwork.com, search for Eudora High School, and subscribe. This will be a great way for friends and family members who can’t make the game to watch their favorite Cardinal compete.
