BHS Theatre presents "A CHRISTMAS STORY"
Bryan High School Theatre is hard at work again this fall to bring a Christmas classic to the stage. Most families in America make it a tradition to watch Ralphie Parker and his hilarious quest for a Red Ryder BB gun every holiday season in the movie, A CHRISTMAS STORY. This well-loved classic comes to life on stage this November. Audiences will be delighted when they see all their favorite scenes and hear their favorite quotes. Whether it’s "FRAG-EE-LAY” , “Oh Fudge, or “You’ll shoot your eye out”, the cast brings all the iconic moments life. Sophomore Nolan Kuhn brings youthful hope to the role of Ralphie Parker as he focuses on his singular Christmas wish. Ethan Psurny, another sophomore, plays his oatmeal- snorting, snowsuit- wearing younger brother. The parents, played by seniors Hannah Goodrich and Austin Manley, won’t disappoint if you’re expecting their memorable scene with the leg lamp. Sophomore Max Eckhardt gives his narrative voice as Ralphie all grown up which adds all the nostalgia and plenty of laughs. Expect to see some other favorites including Jillian Drinnon (junior) as the teacher Miss Shields, Louis Duggan (junior) as the bully, Scut Farkas, and of course, Kaleb Sampson (senior) as Santa. Over 20 other lively high schoolers fill out the cast of school children and the townspeople of Homan, Indiana. Come expecting to see one of your all-time favorite moments from the movie on stage, but expect some surprises and new scenes, as well, as this group of talented actors brings this family-friendly classic from the small screen to the Bryan stage.
Performances: 7 PM on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16. 2 PM on Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Bryan Arts and Education Auditorium.
$5.00 general admission tickets go on sale Nov. 4 (before school, during lunch for students, and after school) at Bryan High School. They will also be available at the door before performances.
Student Records
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students over eighteen (18) years of age (“adult students” or “eligible students”) certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. The Board of Education adopted a policy regarding the disclosure of education records and the rights of parents and students to access education records. Copies of this policy and related guidelines are located in all school buildings and individual copies are available from the District’s Records Officer (DRO). The DRO, Juliet Stockman, is responsible for the supervision of student records in the school and her office is located at Bryan Elementary School or she can be reached by calling 419-636-6931.
Both FERPA and Ohio’s Student Privacy Law (R.C. 3319.321) require that the Board, with certain exceptions, obtain a parent or adult student’s written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information about a student. However, the Board may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” without written consent, unless the parent or adult student advises the Board to the contrary in accordance with District procedures. BCS defines Directory Information as student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, height/weight (if a member of athletic team), dates of attendance, dates of graduation, or awards received. The primary purpose of directory information is to allow the Board to include this type of information in certain school publications. Examples include: a playbill, showing a student’s role in a drama/musical production; the annual yearbook; honor roll or other recognition lists; graduation programs and sports activity sheets (e.g. showing weight and height of team members). Directory information, which is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released, can also be disclosed to outside organizations without a parent’s or adult student’s prior written consent. In addition, two (2) Federal laws require the District to provide military recruiters, upon request, with three (3) directory information categories; names, addresses, and telephone listings – unless parents or adult students have advised the District that they do not want their student’s information disclosed without their prior written consent.
Curriculum Review
Parents have the right to inspect upon any instructional material used as a part of the educational curriculum for their student. See Board Policy 2416 for the procedures for making such a request.
Any parent or student who believes that the School District has failed to comply with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) or the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), may file a complaint directly with the Family Policy Compliance Office, U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20202-8520.
This Notice will be transmitted to disabled parents and students or to non-English speaking parents and students in a format designed to accommodate their disability or in their native language. Call the Office of the Superintendent at 419-636-6973 for assistance and information.
Drug-Free Schools
In accordance with Federal Law, the Board of Education prohibits the use, possession, concealment, or distribution of drugs by students on school grounds, in school or school-approved vehicles, or at any school-related event. Drugs include any alcoholic beverage, anabolic steroid, dangerous controlled substance as defined by State statute, or substance that could be considered a “look-a-like” controlled substance. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for all students. Any student who violates this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, in accordance with due process and as specified in the student handbooks, up to and including expulsion from school. When required by State law, the district will also notify law enforcement officials.
The District is concerned about any student who is a victim of alcohol or drug abuse and will facilitate the process by which s/he received help through programs and services available in the community. Students and their parents should contact the school principal or counseling office whenever such help is needed.

Protection of Pupil Rights
The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (“PPRA”) requires the Board to notify parents and eligible students and obtain consent to allow parents or eligible students to opt the student out of participating in certain school activities. These activities include a student survey, analysis, or evaluation that concerns one (1) or more of the following eight (8) area (“protected information surveys”):
1) political affiliations or beliefs of the student or the student’s parent;
2) mental or psychological problems of the student or the student’s family;
3) sex behavior or attitudes;
4) illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating, or demeaning behavior;
5) critical appraisals of other with whom respondents have close family relationship;
6) legally recognized privileged relationships, such as those of lawyers, physicians, and ministers;
7) religious practices, affiliations or beliefs of the student or the student’s parent; and/or;
8) income, other than as required by law to determine program eligibility.
This requirement also applies to the collection, disclosure or use of student information for marketing purposes (“marketing surveys”), and certain physical exams and screenings.
Child Find
A component of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) require(s) local school districts to locate, identify and evaluate all children from birth to 21 suspected of having a disability. This process called, “Child Find”, is to insure that children and youth with a disability receive services to which they are entitled. Children and youth living in the Bryan City School district who are suspected of having a disability may be referred for a possible evaluation to determine if they are eligible for special education services.
