Solving a problem!
We started by brainstorming problems that we face and what current solutions we have to solve those problems.
SCAMPER
We used SCAMPER to develop better solutions to the problem. This really got the creative juices flowing!
Research and product design
Each student was responsible for researching what solutions were already on the market to avoid "inventing" something that already existed. Students then sketched out their prototype and the materials that they would need to build it.
Packaging
Students even designed the packaging of their product to ensure that they had a consistent message.
The Power of Color
Before prototypes were built we studied how color can influence mood and first impressions.
Target Audience
We also spent some time thinking about our target audience and what we would need to say to get them to purchase our products!
Prototype
4th graders built their own prototypes and packaging in class.
Logos
One of the more challenging tasks was designing their own logos. Students had to think of a name that communicated a positive brand message, then create a visual that was appealing to their target audience.
Endorsements
Students hired celebrities to endorse their inventions. They loved learning how to remove the backgrounds and place their products in the hands of their celebrity.
Business Cards
Another favorite was creating their own business cards (using fake information of course).
Brochures
Our 4th graders learned how to make brochures, write product descriptions etc.,
Commericials
Every single Norton student wrote and starred in their own commercial promoting their invention.
Awnings
Every student learned how to sew to make their own awning for their display board.
Dressed to impress
As a final touch, each student had to sew their own bow tie to keep it classy with their logo t-shirt.
