LQA&E Training
To be eligible to participate in the State Fair, youth must have an active LQA&E or YQCA certification before the county fair at the extension office. If you have questions about your certification status, please contact the Extension Office. June level 1 And 2
May Cloverbud Connection meeting.
Welcome to the exciting world of 4-H and Cloverbud Connections! Youth ages K-2 and their parents are encouraged to attend this event. Our Lyon Co. Cloverbud meetings happen once a month on the 2nd Monday of the month at the Marshall - Lyon County Library.
We will be learning about the 4-H Project areas: Gardening and Agriculture
- Monday, May 8, 2023 from 5:30pm - 6:30pm at the Marshall-Lyon County Library in the Children's Center
- Minimum of 8 participants to hold the event.
Please RSVP by May 4 , 2023 by filling out one form per child participant.

Ambassador Meeting for May 16 at 5:45pm
There will be an ambassador (youth in grades 6-13) meeting on May 16 at the Lyon County Extension office from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.
We will plan summer activities and a kick-off to the summer ambassador event.
Minimum of 5 for meeting to take place.

Premium Book and Fair Registration
We are excited to release the 2023 Premium Book ! We encourage you to peruse the Premium Book as you consider which projects to tackle this year.
FairEntry will be live and available to register for the fair beginning Tuesday, May 16th. FairEntry will close on July 8th at 11:59 p.m.

4-H Summer Camp
4-H Camp is a great way to have fun outdoors and meet new friends! Camp will again be held at Shetek Lutheran Ministries on the shores of Lake Shetek; youth who completed grades 3-6 can choose one of two camp sessions (two nights/three days)

We have project resource books available at the Extension Office. These resources will guide you through beginning a new project and can help you further develop and elevate current projects. We have created a "library" for our resources: https://z.umn.edu/projectresources Please explore the library, and, if you would like to explore a resource, contact the office to check out the resource, or we will scan and email the resources for you so that you can make use of them. Ribbon Auction Scholarship
Calling all 4-H Seniors! Wouldn’t an extra $250 be awesome for your first year of college or Vocational-Technical College? Take a couple of minutes to apply for the Ribbon Auction Scholarship. Get hopping with 4-H Rabbits
Have you been considering adding a rabbit to your family? Do you already own a rabbit, and want to know more about what it is like to bring your rabbit to the 4-H county show? Is it your goal to win the showmanship award at your 4-H rabbit show this summer? Then sign up for the “Get Hopping with 4-H Rabbits” this spring! Register for and learn more about this May 13, in-person program for grades 3+ .Don’t miss out! Register by May 8.
Sharp Shooter meeting
Did you know that Lyon County 4-H offers shooting sports through the Sharpshooters project club? The sharpshooters offer BB gun (3rd grade +), archery (3rd grade +), air rifles, and air pistol (4th grade +), . 22 rifle and .22 pistol (7th grade +), muzzleloading (7th grade +), and shotgun (7th grade +)
If you would like to learn more or participate, come to the Sharpshooters Club meeting on Wednesday, May 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Southwest Sportsmen's Club in Minneota, MN. If you can't attend but would like to participate or learn more, let the Extension Office know!

May Federation meeting
The next Lyon County Federation meeting will be held Tuesday, May 16 at 7 pm at the Extension office. It is important that there is club representation for this meeting. We will be discussing the food stand and choosing schedules.
Livestock PDC Meeting
The livestock PDC will meet on Thursday May 18th at 7pm, Extension Office. We will be reviewing Animal ID’s. discuss any animal project updates, and awards.
Barn to BBQ: Meat Science
Learn about the process of meat from the barnyard to your backyard BBQ. Join us to explore Meat Sciences! Youth will evaluate live animals with ultrasound, learn about different cuts of meat, explore meat grading and judging, have an opportunity to try different meats and much more! The event is open to all youth in grades 6 and up and cost is $25. Register by June 1. Space is limited, so register today!
