Euthanasia

Definition:

Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering

Different types of euthanasia:

Voluntary - euthanasia with the consent of the patient

Non-voluntary - euthanasia where the patient is not able to make a decision

Active - Euthanasia by use of lethal substances or forces

Passive - Euthanasia by withholding things that are keeping the patient alive

Arguments For:

  • Euthanasia is not expressly forbidden in the bible
  • Christians believe that there is life after death, so why prolong dying
  • Different churches teach that euthanasia is acceptable in certain circumstances

Arguments Against:

  • God created life, we should not play God
  • It is wrong to kill (6th commandment)
  • The body is a temple of the holy spirit so it should not be destroyed
  • People should learn from suffering rather than avoiding it
