Principal's Message

Hello CV Family,

While there is a great deal happening on campus, I wanted to focus on three champions we have had the opportunity to observe over the past month. Please take a moment to read more about these students and coaches. The newsletter has some excellent information, and I wanted to highlight some important points. Have a great week, and as always, please reach out to us if we can be of any assistance!

Champions and Championships!!!

  • Congratulations to Coach Martinez, his staff, and his players on winning the 5A State Championship on Friday! The players and coaches demonstrated their character and commitment to each other in fighting through adversity to win the first state championship in school history on the hardwood! It was also an outstanding showing from our students, staff, parents, and the CV community. Veterans Memorial Coliseum was absolutely packed with Campo fans! One event worker told us they hadn’t seen a high school fan base turn out as we did on Friday. Again, congratulations to Coach Martinez, his staff, and our players on the championship and a great season and, for many, a great career!

  • Congratulations to Coach Shea and the CV Cheer Team for winning the first-ever national championship for cheer! An excellent and well-deserved accomplishment for Coach Shea, the coaching staff, and the girls as they won the USA Cheer Nationals in Anaheim. Our cheerleaders work extremely hard to prepare to compete for their competitions and support our athletes at their events.

  • Majel Morones is the two-time heavyweight state champion! Congratulations to Majel, Coach Bishop, and the coaching staff! It is challenging enough to win one state championship, but Majel has had a dominant career and earned his way to the top of the podium the past two years. Congratulations Majel!

Thank you for your continued support, and please let us know how we can support you and your student!

Best regards,

Mr. Tyler Dumas

Counseling News

Registration

Counselors are continuing to meet with students individually this month through math classes to ensure course selections for next school year are entered correctly in the academic planner. Questions about classes will be answered during this time.

Global Academy Online Classes

Students currently taking online classes need to make sure they are on pace with their assignments and submitting their attendance daily. Go to the link below for instructions on how to submit attendance correctly: https://www.gilbertschools.net/domain/1521. Students should be working on their class daily to avoid being dropped. Students should also be aware of their course’s end-date, and ensure that they have taken the final exam and requested their final grade prior to the end of the course. Any questions or scheduling of final exams can be directed to Mrs. Jacobson at amy.jacobson@gilbertschools.net.

Students wishing to enroll in an online class outside of the school day must follow this link: https://www.gilbertschools.net/Page/1459 and fill out the Concurrent Enrollment Google Form. Global Academy has sessions starting every two weeks so be sure to select the correct start-date. Session dates can also be found at the link above. Students must go through an online orientation before the class will be approved. Questions can be directed to the student’s counselor.

AzSCA Conference

Our CVHS Counselors had the opportunity to present to school counselors around the state at the Arizona School Counselors Association Conference on February 7th. Their topic of “Getting Out of Your Office and Building Meaningful Relationships” was well received by other counselors and schools and was a great team experience!

APPLICATION NOW OPEN FOR 2023 CVHS HONOR CORD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

One of the cornerstones of our mission at Campo Verde High School is SERVICE.

Our students consistently lead through service to others in our community and our campus family. We are grateful and are better for the efforts of our students. The impact of this is evidenced in our campus culture and is essential to "The Campo Way" and meeting the needs of "Every Person, Every Day." The opportunity to wear graduation regalia for their outstanding commitment to service is an honor that many students have been looking forward to for four years. The application is now open and all are due on March 10 at 2:30.

Students may contact the Community Service Coordinator, Kathleen Diggs with any questions.

Library Updates

*********************************

Library News and Information:

Circulation has been up in the new year (over 900 circulations in January and almost 800 in Feb!). We have plenty of current YA titles to keep our students happy this year. We encourage students to check out books before the two week spring break!

Chromebook Information:

It is quite common for our Chromebooks to freeze. When the Chromebook freezes, it turns to a black screen. Many students therefore think that their Chromebook isn’t working since all they see is a black screen. They can come to the library and we will unfreeze their Chromebook for them, but it is a simple fix that students can take care of on their own if they’d like-especially if it happens after school hours. Quickly press the refresh and the power button at the same time. That will unfreeze the Chromebook.

Digital Citizenship:

ChatGPT is a new(ish) Artificial Intelligence that can accomplish pretty much anything you ask of it. It can answer almost any question, solve math problems, and even write essays! You can see how this could become problematic in an academic setting. We hope that our school assignments are a way for students to learn. And we hope that our students understand that having someone else or someTHING else complete their assignments is a form of plagiarism. Here is more information on ChatGPT and the conversation you can have with your teens about the ethics behind using it. Please take a look at this article: Guide to ChatGPT for Parents/Caregivers.
