The Cell Cycle
Ms. Addison
Interphase
- The cell spends 90% of their time in interphase
- Interphase consists of 3 different phases (G1,S,G2)
- In Growth Phase 1 (G1) the cell grows
- In the Synthesis Phase (S) DNA replicates
- In Growth Phase 1 (G2) the cell prepares for mitosis
Prophase
Mitosis begins with prophase
Chromatin Condenses into chromosomes
The nucleus & nuclear membrane disappear
The centrioles move to opposite ends
Prophase: The First Stage of Mitosis
Anaphase
Chromosome separate into chromatids and the chromatids pull apart
Telophase
- Two new nuclei (nucleus plural) form
- Chromosomes change into chromatin
- Mitosis ends with telophase
Cytokinesis
The cytoplasm separates into two. Two new cells form.
