Successful Lockdown Drill

Student and staff safety are our number one priority at SHHS. Oregon law (ORS 336.071), requires “all schools instruct and drill students on emergency procedures so that students can respond to an emergency without confusion or panic...” This includes drills and instruction on fire, earthquake (and where appropriate tsunami), and safety threats (lockdown, lockout), shelter-in-place, and evacuation.

On Friday, 10/19, we held our first lockdown drill of the school year with great success. Our school community reacted quickly to lock themselves into quiet, dark spaces to protect themselves in case of a safety threat. Our admin team, custodians, support staff, and 6 police officers provided by SHPD Chief Greenway walked through the halls, checking classrooms, and assessing our level of response.

We will continue to work as a collaborative team to improve our systems to ensure that we stay staff in case of emergency. Great job, everyone!
