Estacada High School
Virtual Learning during Inclement Weather
Estacada High School Families,
We are writing to share information regarding a new method of attending school during days that school is closed due to inclement weather. Estacada School District is launching “Virtual School Days.” This term refers to a day when school is canceled due to inclement weather. As always, Parents/guardians will be notified of school closings through a phone call, text, and/or email using our automated messaging system. On days when school must be closed, students will now participate in learning opportunities from home. We will leverage our schools 1 to 1 program of Chromebook devices for every student. Some students may be able to utilize a mobile phone to get their required work done. Using this approach will alleviate the need for students to make up days by attending additional school days at the end of the school year.
The Virtual School Day plans for each grade level are developed by your student's teachers with the support of our school administrators. As with any new initiative, there may be some unforeseen issues that occur. Please know that we will take these into consideration as we continue to improve this new learning experience for our students.
Attendance will be taken during these days and will be earned through a student communicating with each teacher each day. Teachers will send out a message to your student’s school email with their learning activity. Some teachers may opt to call home for that dialog. Students will need to respond to the email. That email dialog between your student and the teacher is required for proof of attendance for that class period. Students will need to respond to all of their teachers’ emails each day by 8pm. Students will also need to complete the work that is assigned to them. The work should closely align with the learning experience that would be taking place in the classroom if the school was in session. Those students who are unable to receive an email should call their teacher using the phone extension number listed at the end of this message.
Our 9th Grade Success Coach, Charlie Jones, will be available during these days via text message, email, or Google Hangouts video call to help students with any question they have. She can be reached at jonesc@estacada.k12.or.us and 503-490-2022.
Attendance Robo-Calls will go out after 8pm on these days to let you know if your student was marked absent.
We hope this program will allow your student to continue their learning while at home in the event of inclement weather.
If you have any questions regarding this pilot program, please contact the school at 503-630-8515.

Foreign Exchange Students Need Placement
International Cultural Exchange Services is looking for loving homes for 3 students who have requested to live and attend high school in Oregon during the 2019-2020 school year.
Milan is a 15 y/o boy from Spain. He enjoys shopping, music, dance and spending times with his friends. He looks to cook and is looking forward to making some traditional Spanish dishes for his American host family.
Anna is a 16 y/o girl from Germany. She enjoys horseback riding, jogging, ballroom dance, reading, drawing/painting, singing, and music. Anna plays the saxophone and piano and also loves to cook.
Giacomo is a 16 y/o from Italy. He enjoys soccer, snowboarding, American basketball, animals and nature, and travel!
As a host family, you provide basic room and board for a student while the students come with their own health insurance and spending money for all personal expenses and school lunches. All host family dynamics are welcome!
To learn more about the benefits of hosting one of these amazing exchange students, please contact Kari Hampton at hampton.ices@gmail.com or 503-724-2308.
