News from this week
Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for all of your generosity! Our class raised over $22 per exercise for our school. I hope the students had a lot of fun along the way. I know they had a great time yesterday at the Hero Fit Challenge! We also enjoyed our rewards of hat, gum, and stuffed animal day!
Congratulations to our classroom Spelling Bee winner, Kadhelia. We know she will represent us well in the Gwin Oaks spelling Bee on Wednesday, December 19th in the Media Center. Congratulations to our runner up, Hasan, as well. All students did their best, and I am proud of all of the students who tried out for rising to the challenge.
Please refer to the upcoming events and important dates as we have a lot going on between now and Winter Break including Holiday Shoppe and a Winter Celebration party.
Please read the information below regarding community service, an important Parent Survey, and information regarding Witzzle Pro with Ms. Webb. Today is the last day to complete the Parent Survey.
The students have worked extremely hard to finish units in most subject areas. The only thing that is due when we return next Monday is the Turkey Reading Log. It was sent home in your child's Friday Folder. It should reflect 200 minutes of reading; 100 minutes for this week and 100 minutes for next week. Students will receive a special treat from Ms. Amolo for returning it the Monday we return. I hope you all enjoy your family time!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Stoffle
Message from Dr. Barlow
The Gwinnett County Public School System is committed to providing students with the best possible education and school experience. We recognize, however, that there is always room for growth and improvement. An excellent way for us to determine how to improve is by asking you. Your response is especially important because you can help us determine where improvements are needed. Please take a few minutes to complete the RBES Parent Survey located on the Parent Portal from October 22, 2018- November 16, 2018. If you need a paper copy of the survey in English or Spanish, please notify your child's teacher. Thank you for taking the time to help us with this important survey. Your participation now will help us to provide even better educational experiences in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barlow
Principal

PBIS
Thank you parents for supporting PBIS here at Gwin Oaks Elementary School. We are off to a GREAT start. As a part of PBIS, recognition and consequences are given to students to support the continual learning of being ready, being respectful, and being responsible. These can be given by classroom teachers, specials teachers, counselor, and administrator. Currently, we have student recognition in the classrooms and will have school wide recognition as well, beginning in the month of October. If a student receives a consequence, it will be consistent and fair. Teachers will ensure students understand the reason for the consequence and he/she should be able to tell you exactly what occurred. There will also be a PBIS form sent home documenting the incident and consequence. If you have a question regarding the situation, please contact the teacher that gave the consequence. Thank you for supporting our efforts by discussing concerns at home. We look forward to continuing our successful year.
